I think it's Jimmy Page but there's so much for me to listen to so this could change with time.
I also like
The Edge,
Jack White,
David Gilmour,
Jimi Hendrix
and so many others. There's also guitarists like Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert and Buckethead that I personally think are good guitarists but don't listen to very much. Two guitarists I totally dislike are Slash and Steve Vai, the latter probably because I know he's a twat (just like Malmsteen but I don't dislike him).
I can already see you saying how much you dislike The Edge and mayve even Jack White but... yeah, what can I say.
Oh, and I think Kurt Cobain is a decent guitar player. He may be overrated (in my opinion never as much as Slash) but he's still good. |

Sorry to get typical here, but Kurt is more overrated than Slash will ever be. He's become more of an icon as a martyr than he was when he was alive. Slash just plays with heart, and doesn't really give a ****. And due to that, a lot of people like him, and a lot hate him, just because people like him. Slash has just been blown out of proportion by the media because of all the political BS band-wise. Personally, that aspect gets old. He's an incredible musician though. He may not shred your face off or tap a million miles an hour, but he writes songs people like to hear. And thats the most important thing of all, besides writing songs that you're satisfied with yourself.
The two cents,
Ozz |

RA says: i never really wanted to play guitar until i heard television's Marquee Moon (song) so i guess my answer is Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd
Kudos Suh !
and when ya figured out the 'Lloyd walk-up' and 'the secrete of Tom/Richard dance(aka 1st 2 min)' dija not just wanna fall backwards in delight?
but really, bro.... Kudos!
..and lets not forget the one-time 'Television alumnus', Robert Quinne ! i still have an EP from 75 or 76 (pre-'Television'-name) 'Neon Boys'(w/ Richard Hell) 'Don't Die' b/w 'Time' and that gem of all gems ... the ancient ORK Records 1-song Television Single (Eno did the demos lol) 'Little Johnny Jewel', Later immortalized on the ROIR release "The Blow UP" as a 12 minute guitar freakout ... Hanx fer the (still played) memories RA!
and again i say, Kudos !
RAWK!

I thought I was going to really like Zakk Wylde, but the very first song I heard from Black Label Society was "In This River" and I got instantly turned off when he played that solo and ruined a potentially very good song. Absolutely does not fit the song at all. :-( |

Wow. I actually thought I was going to like him a lot, too, but then I listened to a few of his (his band's songs) and I didn't want to listen to it again but that was a while ago so I don't know the songs that I listened to.
There were other guitarists that I could describe in a similar way but I can't remember who it was right now. |

To pick just one would be impossible. So I'll tell you what I did yesterday...
Listen to Freddie King's "The King Of The Blues" followed by Albert King's "The Blues Collection Vol. 26" with some Roy Buchanan, J.J Cale and Albert Collins thrown in for good measure...Makes for a great morning.
Then move into the lunch break with Robert Johnson's "King Of The Delta Blues" and B.B King's "Live At The Regal".
And then...an afternoon with the Allman Brothers "Live at Ludlow's Garage" with some John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Johnny Winter and some Led Zeppelin.
No wonder I was bored watching Idol with the Wife.... |

I don't think very many people (if any) can narrow it down to one, so I'm not even gonna try.
All the obvious ones (Hendrix, Paige, SRV, Eric Clapton, etc.)
EVH, Randy Rhoads, Richie Sambora, Dave Mustaine, George Harrison, Joe Perry, Santana |

I think all my favs have already been mentioned...Randy Rhoads, Eddie VanHalen, Michael Angelo Batio to name a few... but I don't think I saw Ace Frehley's name anywhere...Ok I know he wasn't the BEST, but think of the influence he's had on so many guitarists! |
