Hmm I'm 17, I guess that means I first played at 7?
But I don't count time played until I owned my own guitar so I guess 14?

Picked up the guitar at 12, and I'm 20 now. Been playing heavily since I was 16 though-it became a bit more than a hobby at that point-and now it's all I really do(and look for work).

Thanks Alex! My goal is to one day have my own home studio and write, record, and produce all of my own music. It will take a long time, given how little I can practice (at least I have my guitar in my hands right now!!), but the jounrey is very enjoyable, so life is good! I am hoping to have my first album done by the time I turn 50, so I have 20 years to achieve my only true item on my bucket list. :o)

You, and many others on this forum, are an inspiration to me. This community is very supportive of one another, which is really cool.

I don't have any originals really, I am still learning sloooowly, since my family and work take up so much of my time - that and trying to get back into shape. I'll get there eventually though and will definitely post any music I make here for everyone to hear.

I started at 36 and now I'm 39. I don't get to practice as much as I'd like. I just broke or sprained (?) two fretting fingers so I'm experimenting with just the other two now.

let's see. i've lived in my apartment now for 2 years. i moved in in july. the previous january is when my brother first lent me his guitar. sooooo that would beeee.......

jan 2011 - sept 2011
jan 2010 - jan 2011
jan 2009 - jan 2010

no. have i really only been playing for 2 1/2 years??? it both seems so much longer than that, but also not that long at all.

well if that's the case, i first picked up a guitar when i was 26 1/2, and now i'm 29 and a few months.

i'm not so much into the whole "writing my own music" thing yet. i sure wouldn't mind at least playing in a cover band some time, though.

baby steps!

Hmmm... Got my first git when I was 10. Didn't play it worth a damn though. Starting with a bass at 13 or 14, not long after that I migrated to guitar.

Technically, I was 13/14ish when I played for the first time. But then that was the phase where I began to enjoy music and spend all my school breaks hiding out from bullies in the music dept and messing around with all the different instruments. Although, one of the teachers thought she'd actually teach me guit - then I actually was too busy with the piano I had no knowlege of. I'd put together blends of keys I thought sounded good, memorize where they were without even knowing the letters for a while and play compositions I liked. Also I'd mess with the drone when it felt right. Suprisingly, people genuinely thought I could actually play! They asked me to play songs they knew and were shocked twhen I confessed I just made stuff up. That satisfaction just totally distracted me from guitar, which was always gonna be more useful considering the price of a piano and to get real lessons on it.

I also tried learning banjo for the rest of that year until I took guitar seriously when I was 15. I'm 18 now so 3 years is what I'd call it. But I'm much more into bass now, but I'll keep my guit on the side. :)
