Mission Of Burma - 'Unsound' (Fire Records, 2012)
and
Ritual - 'Think Like A Mountain (2003)
and
Bill Frisell/Ron Carter/Paul Motion - (self-titled) - 2005
a new CD by a very retro-Psychedelic band (i am Mastering It for them, so: 1: i have have heard TOO much, lol, and 2: cant give the name cause its confidential/business until release)
all moth i have been recall digging a few old faves on Lp/Cd:
Mississippi Fred MacDowell - S/t - (rounder Records) Lp
&
Lightnin' Hopkins - 'Lightnin' & The Blues' CD (arhool rec)
two neat facts re above
1- Fred was born a few miles away from where i live, in the county of Rockfort TN, Someone THOUGH he was from Mississippi and gave him the nickname, Fred said, "i don't mind i feel at home in Mississippi, but my home is in ..."-"besides it sounds easier than Rockford Fred..(laughs)" ... gotta love that
&
2- That Lighnin' Recorded was recording in 1948, a guitar w/ a pickup taped to it , through an amp distorted only by being broken, accompanied (for once) by the two cats he was playing Bars with at the time, Lighnin was usually a "minstrel"(wandering solo act) but they caught him this time and caught him at his peak. THIS is considered by many to be the first rock and roll lp made. MADE not heard. You see, the label wasn't really doing anything but 78's and singles at the time and on its release it sold possible 200 copies. It was shelved until 1964. When it hit it hit HARD, KEEF Riff-Hard, and the rest of the young Brits and American 'Folkies' 'found it first and raved and raved about it and its immediate influence...Later we James Brown (1st) shattered the world with its first (non - classical) LP, or rather LP that SOLD, lol, the FIRST, James Brown Live At The Apollo, was it TRULY released. Its impact on those then young artists such as Johnny Winter, Rick Derringer, Roy Buchanan, etc-etc and the rest of what would be the 60's Texas Blue explosion and the not AS young Cats (some of which he knew) like Albert Collins, Freddy, Albert, BB King(not all related) etc- as well as the rockers coming up Bluesy (Allman Bros for ex.) cannot be understated. this Lil slab of Vinyl did more to change the face of rock/blues cicra 65-on than almost any recording from that period (odd period Rec 48 Rel 64 lol)
and as always ... a Pile of Son House
