I'm really digging E Flat [Eb]. And if anyone didn't quite understand what EMB meant with the singing thing, E flat is just tuning down a 1/2 step, therefore it gives the singer a little more slack as to not strain his voice trying to keep in key.

Eb, most guys used it in the 80s and it really helps out with my using modes. I get to use Ab Major and A Major all the way up the neck now.

Eb and D standard are my favorite tunings, makes it easier to sweep pick. When i play with my friends i'm in Drop D.

I like to tune to chords when I'm just messing around. I recommend (insist, really) that you all tune your guitar to your favourite chord at least once.

But when I'm studying I'm in standard tuning.

Standard FTW

although I often use Drop D half step down
and E flat.

I have 3 different electric guitars with those tunings.

For most tunings (dropped tunings and standard tunings) the notes going down are all the same interval from the 5th string.
i.e. ADGBE 1-4-7b-2-5
GCFAD 1-4-7b-2-5
I hope that makes some sense.
It works better if you relate it to the 6th string in standard tuning, but then it doesn't work for dropped tunings. the point of that was just to give a rough way of figuring your way into a tuning with a "one size fits most rule". Pay attention to the wording though!

p.s. if i'm wrong come out and correct me for everyone's sake. (mostly mine)

I use standard almost exclusively for writing. I have learned songs in Drop D, Drop C, and all kinds of opens for other people's stuff. I usually mess around with them after I'm done learning the songs, but I usually end up tuning back to standard pretty quickly.

I've been playing Drop D and drop C forever now. Although sadly enough, I've only have the time to pick up my guitar once maybe twice a week and I've been diggin' E standard recently.

me either -- 7 string guitars(fpor the 1-5 reason) annoy me as do 2 finger "chords"
(it's only a chord when ya have three or more notes, lol and octaves don't count as a note)
i teach (just fini fer the day sooooo many kids who are somehow stuck on the idea that an A-note + E-note = A-chord
aarrgghh ... thats an interval fer chrissake
but
wine after 7 hours teaching makes me ****y
so-apologies to any offended

i just get pissed off when i teach a new 'shredder-student who can tap-dance all over the neck, but lacks the skill to for a Cmaj7
and remember ...

I think Jazz and I are the only ones that are more experimental with alternate tunings here :-P

One of my favorites is CGDGBbD and DGDGBbD. Has a great sound to it :-P

Haha I agree with Jeff. Plus those are great tunings. I've played in CGDGBbD quite a lot, I can make some great music from that. Actually, I also think it has a lot to do with our inspiration too.

My favourite tuning is EEEEEE.

But sometimes when I'm feeling a bit 'out there' I like to mix things up a bit with DDDDDD, which I find really opens up a load of tonal possibilities.

I used to know a guy who tuned to EEEEED, but he was just crazy; I had to stop hanging round with him because his tuning was just blowing my mind and I severely couldn't cope with it.

Isn't there a Goo Goo Dolls song that's tuned to something like DEEEEE?

Anyone know off the top of their head what the tuning is for iris?
