Hmm. There are so many.
Basically anything by Guns N' Roses, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, Pantera, Jeff Beck, Zeppelin, Ozzy (whoever was playing it), and so many more. I just love listening to anything with guitar.

After 48 years it's hard to have a favorite since styles have changed but here goes:
Jethro Tull-Aqualung
Steely Dan-Bodhisattva
A7X-M.I.A.
John Petrucci-Glaskow Kiss
Dennis Cameron-(everything)
I could do this all day but these stick out mostly because the solos are structured around the rhythm not just an all out shred.
Alex Berserker (all contents) Becoming fast my favorite guitarist atm
Carlos Santana - Corazon Espinada
Al di meola (all contents)
Rush - XYZ
Joe Satriani (all contents)
Pink Floyd - Shine on you crazy diamond
oh well... manymanymany others too, not clear favorite.
i prefer pretty simplicity over technical wizardry. dont' get me wrong, if you listen to some of those metal solos that are insanely fast they are very impressive. but they do not resonate with me as "great solos". sometimes they can get lost in the context of a song as a whole (i think a good solo should compliment the framing song well)
weezer has a lot of good solos on the blue album (so far the only weezer album i've ever listened to) and the solos are also good because they are easy enough that i can start to play them.
but one of my all time favorite solos is from muse's "hysteria".
btimm i also really like minus the bear's double-solo guitar rock-out in the middle of "into the mirror". i went to see them monday at this dump hole club. SOLD OUT. what in the world? i've been to that club 3-4 times before they've never had tickets. you just pay the cover and they stamp your hand. sold out? get outta here!

Yeah Dave Knudson has some sick solos gx. Not sure why that slipped my mind when posting, weird cause they are by far my favorite band. Maybe cause I have been in an early 90s kick. lol
I didn't see them in Charlotte, because I was in a bad mood and couldn't find anyone to come with me. Super regretted that decision.
what about... Dirty Projectors - No Intention. i really like that solo. if you go looking for it on youtube make sure you find the studio recording i've seen some live ones where he does it with an acoustic... not as good. lots of nifty guitar work on that album (Bitte Orca).
True gx1327. For me I can really appreciate both fast and slow solos and everything inbetween. As long as it's done well. Like the solo on Sunshine of Your Love by Clapton. It's slow and melodic. He plays it based on the melody of the song Blue Moon.
Van Halen: Jump, Humans being, Running with the Devil
RATM: Sleep now in the fire
Rammstein: STEIN um STEIN, Du Riechst so gut, Rein Raus, Links 234
Metallica: Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters
NIN: The Hand that Feeds
i'm not a big avenged sevenfold fan. but their first album was pretty good. it was a good rock album without being too metal-ish. i'm not even sure what you would classify them as. i guess what i'm trying to say is that i'm not a fan of their genre, but i enjoyed their first album regardless. and one song that stood out to me was "sieze the day". the solo is really cool.

A7x "Dear God" is amazing. The solo is a bit like "Hotel California" solo. They should do more things like Seize the Day and Dear God.
P.S - Wasn't sounding the 7th trumpet one of their old scream(o) albums?
Yes, but it was after a small demo their first real album, thats why I was wondering. I think gx is referring to city of evil. And yeah, the solo is quite hotel california like, I really love the structure of it.
i dug through my music collection when i got home. i meant their first commercial album (city of evil), and i kind of like seize the day but it's not the song i was thinking of. i was thinking of "strength of the world", with the guitar break-down part in the middle.

that album is actually really good. Strength of The World has a good intro i personaly think, and Listen to the end solo of "Sidewinder"(different album i think), it's a kinda nice acoustic solo.

To me, Strength of the World is a masterpiece. Should have been on the sound track for Braveheart. The acoustic solo at the end of Sidewinder is actually Synyster Gates and his dad( Brian Haner Sr.-AKA Papa Gates) trading licks.
