okay so a few years ago i was watching the MTV europe music video awards on MHD (now called palladia). i don't remember when but it was the year they were hosted in copenhagen. i saw a 15 second clip from a song and thought "man, that is awesome, i have to check them out". the band is called "kashmir" and i fell instantly in love with them. from what i can gather, they are HUGE in their native denmark. i mean like coldplay huge. but i cannot find any recognition of their music in the states. none of their albums have been printed in the states (you can get an import off of amazon for upwards of $30), although i think their newest at least is available on itunes.
anyway, as with most of the bands i listen to, i get a huge hardon for a band or album or genre, listen to it obsessively for a few months, and then i just kind of forget about them and find something else. occsaionally i will rediscover a band that i love.
i think i'm going to repost most of this in the "bands nobody has heard of but should" thread. really these guys are pretty phenomenal. their early music was sort of grunge rock. humorously enough, their original name was "nirvana" until a little band in seattle, WA gained international noteriety under the same name.
from the grunge rock (i've heard some of it but can't find any albums online) they sort of progressed into this OK Computer-meets-Kid A radiohead bliss. it's a mix of eclectic, odd timed rythyms, synthesizers, and folksy guitar songs.
i've always liked most of their music, but now that i rediscovered them, i found a song that is just super awesome that i had previously overlooked.
okay enough ranting. denmark's Kashmir - Petite Machine. i love this solo. any hints on how to get my guitar to sound like that???
