Which would you prefer and why?

I voted fender as I find them more comfortable to play, I've tried les pauls and they are really too bulky for my taste.

Although I am always open to try a new guitar...

I got to go with the strat,they have superior playabilty speed wise,and single.coils.provide a more"natural tone the a humbucker equipped epi lp.If im.not mistaken you've taken up jazz correct?Those single.coils.will.make.your jazz chords sweeter sounding.BUT the epi lp does provide a Fatter tone,with biiger frets for more comfortable.fingering

I like the MIM Strat. I like the sound you get from a Strat either American or MIM. I like LPs but I would prefer a real LP from another decade.

Seeing as I own the Fat strat... i'd pick that.

Now, if it was a Gibson Les Paul custom... this would be a completely different story.

If you only have only one guitar, adding a coil tappable humbucker would diversify your sound. Being able to do neck and bridge would be pretty cool too, like a tele, but that's more modding (I don't have time for).

I have coil splitting humbuckers on my guitar, I pretty much only use the coils lately.

im getting a tele when i can afford it.

I voted for the LP, since I have one. I like the feel of Fenders better, I just don't like strats, and I think Alex was right about having humbuckers in strats. It kind of just defeats the purpose, I guess.

Nullnaught - I'm also saving up for a Tele. I've played some, and every one was awesome. I love how they play, and the neck feels amazing.

Speaking of which, a question to those who've played both. Would you go with a Tele with humbuckers or single coils? Just wonderin'.

like you said ozz,a strat without singles is pointless,as would be a tele.

Keith Richards had a Tele with a neck humbucker though, and I'm pretty sure it helped him write the riff to Honky-Tonk Woman.

well um uh err ehm eh,damnmit i guess so but id get a neckbucker,and coilbridge,since i use the bridge for rhythm,and neck.for lead.

the tele i liked had alnico 5s. Is there a better sounding pickup that those?

@main topic Fender wins hands down on these topics, for the sole purpose of manufacturing philosophy. Both are mass-produce, but Les pauls where designed with the master crafts man in mind while Fenders where design with mass production in mind (all fender guitars are is a sliced log with a fence post bolted on then shaped). Also the reason why fenders are much better at cheap cost (think comparing top models to lower models [not talking about that custom shop junk]). That being said anyone who has play a high quality Gibson knows how great Les Pauls truly are, but damn that is a den in the pocket.

@Ozzfan486-- I'm a big tele guy my self and when talking only about the rhythm pickup (any one with a humbucker at the bridge is just being silly) unless you really want the humbucker sound skip it. The chrome plated pick-up (forget the official name) is really a beast of it own and isn't like other single coils. So unless you can't stand the hum or are just obsessed with buckers there's really no need. You may want to look at Tele Bajas, very nice guitars and maybe right up your ally if they still make them that is.

and if any one else is looking at teles get one there called the most recorded solid body for a reason.

I don't really like either very much honestly, I mean the Les Paul guitar have a nice tone(when they are actually made right) and the same with strats, but they don't fit my body well at all. I'd probably take the strat due to it having a single coil in the neck, it has a very unique tone to it.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I was just double checking my sanity here, as I was looking into selling my LP and buying a MIM Strat. I did pick up the Strat (see pics of your guitar sticky) and am about to sell the LP. I think they both have their cons and gshred summed it up pretty well here. I like the feel of the Fender much better and was surprised when I played it a bit before thinking of getting one at how much lighter the Strat is. I think the LP might be the definition of "solid" body. lol The reason I did this is because I just like the Fender better overall, but also because I plan on looking for a good deal some point in the future and picking up a semi-hollow guitar as well. So I will choose between the two and would like play the semi-hollow much more for jazz and blues.

I am not sure why this is, but it sure seems that the Fender plays significantly easier, my fingers just move better on the neck. Although I do think the LP has a fuller sound. I guess there are pros and cons to almost any guitar.

I like case would pass on both but thats me....

Thats weak dude,$150 is very cheap for one of those.

epiphone dots are pretty nice, i got a chinese made ibanez AF 73 (which is very similar to a 335) for $250 off my craigslist. i will say that it sounds completely different from my MIM strat. i think it has a really "hot" bridge pickup because you almost don't even need a distortion pedal... you just flip from the neck to the bridge and there it is.

I like the 'contour body' of the strat. I like the sound of three of the 5 pickup combos on a strat. The neck feels great.

I don't like the color of my MIM 1992 strat.. I like sunbursts..and mine ice ice blue. It was only $100 though, so I love it.

The only Les Pauls I like are '50's style necks. I can't stand Strats either... But I picked the Fat Strat, because I could make noises with it that I can't make with my EMG'd guitars.
