i still dont understand how pressing 5 colored buttons is a skill... Or why people develop it rather then something useful. My opinion is that the plastic they make it with is destroying the enviroment while providing no service. SO?

I used to play but grew bored with the simplicity and the massive waste of time it is so I just quit. it's fun to play with friends who like the music that you do but can't play very well on a real instrument(so basically all of my friends)...I was on vocal duties hehehe
I don't see a point to it after like 1 song, it's just simon says set to music. not very fun honestly... I'm still baffled that people think it's insane that someone can be doing expert mode and getting 90% or more of the "notes". My old bass player was this way...needless to say I sort of kicked him out of all of my projects...
I wrote in other "it has nothing to do with the guitar" this does'nt mean that I don't like the idea of it being a game because that's what it is, a game. But in terms of it having anything to do with the guitar, it just does'nt.

I don't hate it. I agree it is not benificial to playin real guitar in any way shape or form. I do play it sometimes though when I just feel like goofing off.

It has nothing to do with guitar
It's a ***ing video game, stop trying to make connections that aren't there. That's like saying "I've been playing mario tennis, does that make me a tennis pro?"
Just like Dance Dance Revolution is a game, and not a dance. I love timing related games. It makes games fun when you achieve somethign like that. So, leave it as that.
like most of modern popular culture guitar hero is aimed at providing instant but essentially transparent gratification to the widest possible audience.
it teaches kids that settling for a pale imitation is an acceptable alternative to dedicating yourself to learning a real skill.
it undermines much of what makes original music good by dressing it up and whoring it out to the masses as a semi interactive plaything.
it has nothing to do with creativity, imagination or passion which are the essential core of what makes good music good.
it is another nail in the coffin being constructed for the next generation.

haha I hate water skiing, not because I can't do it(I did fairly well for being my first time) but I hate it because I didn't sign up for 3 enema's along with it.
I used to play it and was pretty good at it but its just a game and has nothing to with guitar nor does playing guitar necessarily make you good at guitar hero
It's a ***ing video game, stop trying to make connections that aren't there. That's like saying "I've been playing mario tennis, does that make me a tennis pro?"
Yeah. Like I said, it has nothing to do with the guitar. Bottom line is the player is not making any sound with the guitar-looking device. They are not creating any sound at all. Just pressing buttons.
I think another down side of it is the whole competition aspect of it and the perception that its related to guitar playing. We have enough debate as it is at this forum talking about who or what band or music is "better" than the other.
Now that I think of it, there's always somebody on this forum that will say something like: Blah blah blah is a REAL guitar player and so and so is not a REAl guitar player. I've even said it myself. But I've got news for ya. If you or anyone else has a REAL guitar in your hand and you are playing it, YOU ARE A REEEEAAAL GUITAR PLAYA!

You gotta learn to be a real person before you become a real player!!!!!
But yes this is a GAME!! If I had a choice My kids would play Guitar Hero with hopes of playing a REAL guitar some day and not some gang theft auto with hopes of growing up to be a thug.
I played guitar hero for a full year and by then I had reached expert and d ecided to play real guitar, thats why I do now, I think guitar hero is a great thing to make more people begin guitar.

It's cool, I guess. I used to play it, but then got more into real guitar. I completely agree it isn't the same as real guitar. Every time I've played the two have been in intensely different situations. Guitar hero, a stupid, chilled out time with friends. Real guitar, whenever I want.
As for the whole "real" guitar play stuff, just stop. Yes, someone who plays an REAL guitar instead of a controller, is a "real" player, but when it gets into the skill aspect of it, it's ridiculous, and every time someone says someone is better, it just pisses someone else off, and all of it is false anyway. Stop being guitar players, and start being PEOPLE who play guitar.
