haha I'm all over the place right now, but at the moment it appears that over the next few months I'll be gigging out with two bands at the same time writing all kinds of music and such.
In January-March I am going to be moving out to Malibu, CA with my dad's friend and I will be learning the airline parts industry(brokering) with him sort of holding my hand for a while. To go with that, my dad's friend knows someone who used to be an Executive(or something high up) at Capitol Records, and she apparently liked my song demos a lot, so she's putting my stuff on a bunch of people she knows.
Hopefully it pans out, but if not, I'm still in Malibu :) haha

As much as I love music, I realize it is a very hard profession to keep.

I'm a Ph.D student at University of Maryland studying Computer Engineering and microelectronics. It's a more stable field of study :)

@ Jeff PhD? I went as far as a masters in my field of engineering. I always was under the impression for me that getting a PhD would have me working at a national lab instead of in the utility industry as I am now. What are yoru thoughts post graduation? Just curious, all the luck man!

@ EMB Berkeley? That's definitely a premier music school iirc. That's awesome dude, hope you get in!

At the moment, I'm taking a year off in between college and university to just live life, and I am loving it! I should be going travelling around Europe then to Australlia in the new year. After that I have a place secured at Exeter university to study physics. Depending on how well I do I'll most likely go for a PhD. Anyway after that I have no idea. I'll just roll with life and see where it leads me.

I have a degree in computer graphic design but have never used it directly. I'm currently somewhat of a systems analyst/data integrity dude at the company I've been at for 10 years. I was laid off for a year and a half but was hire back as a temp in May and was just offered a permanent position on Monday!

As for my music career, it was short. I was in a couple of bands that played clubs in Hollywood for two years in the 80's. We were more well known for playing at rich people parties. It was a lot of fun but hard work.

@Emb and Case, that's awesome. Your passion for music will take you far regardless of where you end up at school and/or your career!

i recommend a practical degree that will put you in a career, music can always be studied as well but i'd invest college tuition on things tht will pay back. This way, you will have certifications and skills to fall back on if your life as a rockstar never materializes. Also look into a trade such as carpentry, plumbing etc. Great work for those that think well with their hands (have you ever fixed your own guitar/pedal?)

I suggest the medical field, it is growing. Rewarding careers that both pay well and give you a compassionate focus and meaning.

Good luck whatever you choose.

Nah Berklee. The berklee im saying is the boston music school, UC berkley is in Cal...

Yeah i hope so too, ive been getting hints from people that i will get in for sure but i never take anything for granted.

@chicago medic. Ive heard that so many times. My response im sure youll laugh at but i wont do anything i dont enjoy doing. That leaves acutally a wide range of things, however music is #1 and im pretty good at it...

And as of medical school, itd probably be the last place. I just dont have the money or time to intern at hospitals and do 48 hour days, residence and finally go into practice. WAY too much money and the way modern medicine is i wouldnt go to an MD for a headache. But thats a different discussion

Keep em coming, very interesting.

Well, I'm with Case, and EMB. Not so much on the college. More along the lines of what BBT said actually. All or nothing. Either way, it'll make for an exciting life.

I agree with Emb. I don't know who said this: "Find what you love to do and do it for a living. That way you'll never have to work a day in your life".

If I can find someone that'l pay me to sleep and watch TV, I'll be all set!

I totally agree with Mac and EMB, I couldn't do anything that I didn't absolutely enjoy doing. I wouldn't mind some jobs(music studio jobs or such)... but yeah...

There are many more fields to choose from in medicine. RN, Paramedic, PA, X-Ray techs...a LOT less time and good money.

You could take fire department tests and be a firefighter/medic like me! Greatest job in the world...I work 24 hours and have 48 hours off, and I make some good coin on top of it.

Definetetly don't do something you are going to hate, the you will be miserable. For example, I could never work a white collar or office job. It would drive me crazy.

Well I can honestly tell you that, if you do something you love, you will never work a day of your life is true.. I went to the Army, went to school for Computer Science, worked many many jobs in many many fields and played guitar the whole time and any chance I got and even worked full time, practicing 3 times a week and playing out weds, fri, sat. I have been a carpenter for 23 yrs now, and work full time and sat, sundays are for only for writing music. I get up at 4 am every day and dont get home until 600, 630 pm every day, but I do not work...find what makes you happy and stick with it and dont let people tell you otherwise, you are the one who has to do it, not them. And allways I mean allways have fun!!!!! There is humor in everything.
