broken string

I was playing the guitar a few weeks ago and of course my mom want to play with it to and she broke a string that was important for the song I'm trying to learn and I just got paid. frustrating.

oh that sucks, broken strings are a pain

yeah I know but they are cheap

lol. I still have my origional strings. 2 years...

a set of 6 strings are like $5-10

i think the special coated strings are like $20...

not really somthing to brag about...

i haven't even been playing guitar for a whole year yet, and i've been told repeatedly that you should regularly change strings every 3-4 months for optimal performance...

mine are probably due for a changing but i'm waiting for one of them to break...!

Why isn't that something to brag about is it bad to have the same strings or bad that he hasn't broken

old strings don't sound as lively as they should...though some may prefer the more dead sound they have...

strings do need to be changed 3-4 months(or about that) to be at max performance(IE the grime and such really doesn't help them out, rust hurts, and if you can get it string spray cleaner/wax is a definite life lengthen)

hell i have to change the Tele, Godin(Elecs) Martin and Gibson(ACs) damn near weekly. I've been teaching, and recording mainly with the Tele, so she needs a re-stringin' weekly, at least, and "Baby" (my ancient Martin" has to go to the Guitar Hospital (a Luther ,i know lol)cause her headstock has a hairline fracture(Pray for her please...no i mean it) so i have had to delicately re-string here weekly as well... but
when "all is right"
I can 'rotate the guitars' enough to get away with 1 pack a week PERIOD, next week the next guitar in rotation.

@cherokee_babe1988, thats why they made fun; 2 years is a LoooooNG time to have one set of strings and , generally, means you've not been playing them much.
B U T
i have run into some kids who "didn't know" you need to change strings regularly, and still had these crusty, rusty old Tetanus-gardens on their Gits, so don't feel yer the only one, lol
BUT CHANGE THOSE STRINGS ;~)

lol tetanus strings, I haven't heard that before.

please tell me that these strings are at least coated?

I clean them.
The only real wear is at the bridge.
Just use a soft cloth, and right as you finish.
And use a seprate guitar for Shows/gigs.

Btw, carry a tuner and spare strings for the most used guitar. Then its not a hassle!

Buy strings in bulk. I usually buy a 6 pack. Lasts me usually about 2 months worth... so I only have to make the trip a few times a year. Really saves on time and hassle :)

well i try and replace my strings every 5 months and i use string formula from ernie ball to keep them alive

oh lol forgot i use ernie ball strings and i usually get skinny top heavy bottems (10-13-17-30-42-52) and for bass i get POWER SLINKY (55-75-90-110) i usually get heavier strings cus i like the tone and i like playing acoustic soundin stuff

I replace my strings every three or four weeks. But even then it's not too expensive. At six bucks a pack im not complaining. Its cheaper than my smoking and drinking habits
