It's not a very good cover. Nirvana was great, but i don't remember them being highly rated. I don't understand the indictment of overrated I guess. Maybe you guys mean - you disliked them and couldn't understand why they sold so many records? They were intentionally inept punk rock and never pretended to be more iirc.

BB,nobody can truly say how he was as.a person, none of us ever met him.nobodys perfect, the people who.left those comments probably related to.his messages, and were lik"wow! this guy knows my pain he speaks the truth".I just hate to see a good song get slaughtered. His music doesnt deserve that no matter how overrated nirvana was.and i just like to add,why do do you think they were overrated?
for me personally? because he can't sing, and he can't play guitar. and yes I'm just not a fan of the music, but I still respect them for being one of the most influential artists in the world.

They were overrated because their music was marginal at very best. His song writing isn't nearly as good as people make it out to be either, in fact most of it is jumbled nonsense. They were the media darlings on Seattle, not due to skill whatsoever. Cobain also had a pretty atrocious voice. It annoys me that they blew up when bands like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Screaming Trees never got the recognition they deserved. Yes, all those bands had loads of success, but they pailed in comparison to that of Nirvana and it is fairly absurd. Basically you can think of Nirvana like any other pop act that is pushed on society - they were not really different than pop acts of today, as they lacked any real talent (outside of Grohl) and were just pushed by the media imo. That is why I think they are massively overrated. Nirvana couldn't hold the jocks of the vast majority of music at the time period.

Is Miley Cyrus trying to reinvent herself as a rock chick?
Also I like nirvana but lets face it Kurt wasn't a guitar god and people over idolise him, even Dave Grohl says they're first few gigs were absolutely the worst things ever and they sucked. It was the hard work of producers and record company execs that helped polish them into the Nirvana that everyone knows about.
That being said I'd take Nirvana over any band who gets described as punk in any way.

I agree brian, but id just like to say i think of nirvana as a bit more tha a pop act, they stil get played on the radio 20 years later, that says something about the longevity of their music.I dont think we will be hearing miley cyrus, justin bieber in 20 yrs.I also think that nirvana would still be touring and such if kurt were still alive
Bob Dylan was actually quite an efficient player, theres some pretty fancy fingerpicking in songs like Don't think Twice. and I quite like his voice, i know the same could be said for Cobain, and ive always said its rough edges that make music worth listening too

I think Grohl would eventually have split off if Kurt had not died.
I agree completely, the band was having major issues before his death and this ...

gs: i don't know, if Cobain was stil alive he's probably still be dead.
made me lol.

there is no riff I've heard from Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Screaming Trees that had the clarity and raw presence of the opening track on Nevermind. Please help me find a gem like that in those bands.
Well, this is naturally going to be subjective, especially since raw presence isn't exactly what many bands try to achiece, but I think there is significant raw presence on these tracks:
Alice in Chains:
We Die Young
Brush Away
Sludge Factory
Soundgarden:
Rusty Cage (definitely)
Outshined
Jesus Christ Pose
Room a Thousand Years Wide
And I also think that none of the bands I mentioned have the style that gives a raw presence, they are just so much more laid back imo, so I suspect you are correct here. Different strokes for different folks I suppose. I don't care so much for raw presence really.
I didn't like all Bleach as much. One reason Nevermind was so fun for me was the clean and produced sound, unlike Bleach. A lot of my music was on cassette back then and sounded even scratchier.
I heard Dave Grohl on Howard Stern a couple of weeks ago. He did'nt really have anything bad to say about Kurt but he didn't really have anything good to say either. He did say Kurt lived in a world all of his own and hung out with all the wrong/drug people.

poor kurt...
meh, you reap what you sew man. Better to learn this now rather than later. Everyone has choices and you pay for bad choices in life. Definitely not poor Kurt. Just like no poor Andrew Wood or poor Layne Staley or any other person who makes decisions like this.

I understand that, but is it his fault he grew up in a broken home, with many health issuess(ie,stomach issues, back problems)?nope,he did all those things to try and numb the pain, all those things were a bit wrong, but your saying you no sympathy for someone trying to escape there horrible reality. It really shows how bad his life was if he killed himself, with millions i the bank and superstar status,a child,a wife, and a band dont ya think?
If i remember well,Kurt stated many times he hated being a rockstar, maybe if he wasnt a rockstar,he would still be alive.
There are other rock legends that may not be as famous as Kurt, but have had worst lifes,Chris Impellitteri is a good example, loosing both parents in early childhood,or Ozzy (ozzy is 10x bigger than kurt, ofcourse!) Ozzy being the troublemaster himself,is still among us,rocking the place.
