So I want to know what you think is the most influential band, composer, musician of
all time?
within the last 50 years?
with in the last 10 years?
with in the last few years?
Influential - having great influence on someone or something
In this case of this post, the something is the music industry or music world.
I don't want you to explain why. I just want to look into artist and see why they sit in high standing.
I think for all time I have to think of Johann Sebastian Bach.
For the last 50 years, the Beatles.
With in the last ten, hate to say it, Green Day...

I think the most important person in music is the person who first manipulated sounds into a melody... |

Influence on other bands that appeal to people like us:
All time: Irish Reels - traditional, no composer.
50: Carl Perkins or Buddy Holly or Led Zep
10: Black Keys
Last few: Arcade Fire or LCD Soundsystem
or maybe not... |

First instrument was a flute made from bone.
Scientists believe that God itself is music... can't remember for the life of me where that video is now though. Damn!
Either way... you can't exactly say "Who started it all" because whoever did - started it looooong before recorded history. |

This is talking about Lucifer before his fall from heaven. I know a lot of people don't believe in such but as BBT said..Since its brought up.
Ezekiel 28:13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created.
Music-created in Heaven. |

It makes so much more sense that the first instrument was a drum, not a flute. A couple of slit drums together and you can make a tune.
I would guess that before a drum, that has a tone associated with it, the first beats were hammered out with sticks or bones on the ground ( a rock?), with the bone itself creating much of the tone. |

Yeah, but still... if we look it from archaeology point of view and evidences found, first device that are found believed to be a 67000 years old, but that cannot be indentified because of its origin.
First instrument that are "found" is believed to be played 43000-67000 years back and its an Divje Babe flute. It produced diatonic scale btw :D...
thou... First musical "instrument" could be a human voice. That produced "music" at a first place, but even that is a hypothesis without proof.
Emp
quick edit.
Ive seen an animals and birds that are produced a "music" if you listen carefully and its quite a possibility, that these living beings been long before an first human beings (Even if they was Adam and Eva :)) SO... that could be a possibility that Human being is not invented music at first place.

I gotta say in the last 50 years... Michael Hedges or Chet Atkins
Last 10 years? Tommy Emmanuel
Of today? Hrmm... I don't know: I'd have to say honestly, Lady Gaga is changing the way a lot of people look at music. Or maybe Mumford and Sons, just because they aren't your traditional mainstream band but are so popular, making people open their eyes to new types of music.
And Jazz: That song has such a crazy melodic line, I love it so much :) He should have another 2 up there. |

Here are the biggest influences on me from the:
Last 200 years- Beethoven
Last 50 years- Dave Mustaine
Last 10 years- Alexi Laiho
Too hard to think about who the alleged "best" was from any of those times, since everyone was different in what they did. |
