Depends, most of the time I write the lyrics, but then there are still times where I write a song on the guitar and the lyrics come afterwards.

If you have a cool song title but don't know what lyrics to try to put with it, try to write a cool riff for the title. That could completely change how you view the title, the mood, and the overall content of the future lyrics.

Personally I usually write riffs first, but occasionally I have lyrics before.

i usually come up with the chords first, then like a week later i come up with some lyrics, sometimes more, i have chord progressions that i came up with almost a year ago that i still havnt written lyrics for. but sometimes the lyrics come first. honestly alot of the time my lyrics start out as another song, then i put my own words to it, then I change it all to make it into my song.

I have written lyrics that have no songs and songs that have no lyrics. Hey! That sound like a song!

WOW...

well i started as a stickler for rhtyhm first,

i used to say dude its nice you have lyrics but they wont fit the song, but i find when im more influenced (pun intended? lol) that i can make it fit by changing things, and when i write lyrics to a melody it can be less creative and more forced.

This may seem weird but I've been trying to come up with the music and melodies in my head. It seems that every time I try to write with a guitar in my hands I end up playing something familiar but if I create it in my head I sometimes will have to work it all out on guitar. In other words I will hear melodies that are above my playing ability making me work harder to learn my own songs. If this makes no sense to you it's OK to think "this dudes a freak". ☺

It makes sense matey. I personally don't do that though haha I usually come up with a melody and then make an 80s action movie sprint to my guitar... man, ninjas are hard to fight in the kitchen xD

So I write.

Dude, it's not as hard to play as people think. Yes, to be on the top of the list is very hard work but to chord and write melodies, it's not so bad. If you ever decide to play you are at the right place to get all the info you need bro.

Mostly the reason I do it that way is I drive a truck 8 to 12 hours a day so there are no mad dashes for the guitar. Dude I go over scales, modes, chord progs...etc. while riding in my truck.

I experiment with riffs and time signatures to start with, then comes a vague structure. Then rhythm and things like that, then vocal melody and lyrics last.

IF.... i write a song with lyrics, guitar and vocals come together as one.
As i play the guitar, vocal inspiration comes. As i write the lyrics, musical inspitation comes

Recently i looked back at my old songs.... and i burned them. They were all about obsession, hatred, killing, and insanity. Which scared me, im usually peace-loving and calm.
Since then my songs have been instru-mental.
