250 bpm metronome

if somoene is able to play wiht a metronome at 250 bpm after only playing 5 months is that a big deal?

Well, tbh, I'd honestly say that's a load of crap. And if you/whoever could - it'd be with A LOT of mistakes. I'd like to see a video.

As long as you have fast fingers and memorize what youre doing (scales, chords, etc.) you should be fine.

BTW ... My Metronome(a nice Sabine i use to help my students) will only hit 200, (Phipster's as well,i asked)so that must be a killer Metronome!

Seriously, i'd love to have a metronome that aint "stuck" where my students sit, lol, that i could use as an 'everyday' Gnome that wont be used as much as my 'student-gnome' or get knocked around, lol, like the 'student metronome'

since i have a guitar teacher now lol..i can safely say that those guys have bad technique and bodombeachterror is right when u play that fast u dnt have to know how to play guitar

i gave up trying to play fast because it just isnt that musical and the only people who know who you are, are going to be guitar nerds. also a lot of shred metal is starting to sound the same. people are getting so hyped up abouting being the fastest but it will sound quite repetative

yeah I pretty much gave up trying to play fast too. since im really not into much metal anymore. only time i wish i could totally shred is when listening to buckethead

That's why I don't like Herman Li of Dragon Force... he doesn't seem to get that after playing that fast, it just doesn't really sound musical

You are absolutely correct. However, it is still pretty cool to be able to pick that fast. Not that you could keep up with your left hand hehe. I know I couldn't! It was more of a sarcastic response than serious. But still, like I said above, pretty cool.

aihgt im bout ot post a video once i figure out how..i have a webcam..but when i open it up the picture buttonly only lights up not the vide obutton..but ANYWAY..my guitar teacher told me to use a metronome as hi as i can go so i used the one on this website and yea...but mabye..i feel like im doing it wrong now since al u guys say its rly hard to do..i dnt even think 250 is fast enuff wish i went to 300+

On a side note, you guys are all ripping speed pretty hard. It definitely has its place in music (but you all know that) You just can't overuse it.

but quarter note triplets @ 250 is.... hell, just 250-bpm quarter notes played cleanly on an acoustic is a feat from hell.
but what good are a zillion bad notes when a few choice notes make the point with less goofiness.

@carl, I'm not trying to be a hole, but is there a reason you bring up your age and the fact that you are a guitar teacher in just about every thread?

Whats wrong with adults playing video games? My dad still does and he's turning 50 next year. The Wii is quite popular with older folks too.

I think it could be fun to play fast, Im happy with 100-125... and playing with... I like the rhythm is one of the most important part of the music anyway, so please, shuffle me on 250bpm or 300 some melodic lines... like Carl said, cleanly. doh well... luckily for all the shredders there are always distortion and delay... and... btw Metallica is famous to slow down its tempo, so lead could use those quarter notes mentioned... so lead guitar sounds like it played really fast...ah well... just my 2 cents...

1- I bring it up as a qualifier and out of habit as it is what I do and who I am - sorry it annoys you.

2- Adults playing video games just seems like a silly waste of valuable time to me, and with an America THIS FAT that time could be used to get some exercise(real world).

Also every second ya play a silly video game when you could be making music seems an awful mismanagement of time to me. (as does this response)

3- I was speaking mainly to up and coming musicians and "shredding" (or whatever its called this week) and the fact that video games such as guitar hero have a harmful effect on music as a whole.

The “look at me mommy! Look how fast I am!” attitude I hear in suprer-fast “shredding” makes me fear for the future, as it seems we are turning the art of Guitar playing into a competition sport.

I cannot stand games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band... my drummer(who annoys the hell out of me with this) brings his laptop to school and play guitar hero when he doesn't have class, and tries to show off... I want to slap him every time I see him do it, plus he's mislabeled me as being able to play anything that's fast(he says I'm shred! ha!)

Wow. Guess I struck a nerve. I never said anything about not liking your posts or not valuing your opinion. I have actually posted, "Excellent post Carl!" before.

I don't care much for shredding either, but I recognize the talent and it gets people interested in music and guitar. Rockband and guitar hero get people interested in music as well. The reason shredding is so popular is that it is entertaining to watch and sounds 'cool' to most people and looks/sounds difficult to do to people who don't play guitar.

But I'm just a 26 year old drummer, guitar player, bass player that plays video games with my family and friends and gets fat, what do I know. :)

IT DEPENDS WHAT YOU'RE PLAYING!!!!! speed usually doesn't impress me at all. Landing the right note, that means the world to me. It can be 60 beats a minute for all i care.

i think if an adult does play a video game, its to relieve stress from working all day and stuff. i dont play ANY games weather its a video game or a computer game. well there is one that i seldom play called age of mythology because i have a facination with mythology

nerd jk! lol..no rly i took a book form the library in high scvhool that was like 500 pages about mythology...

first year, i could play acoustic hybrid picked triplets @255 moving across arpeggios. I can alt pick pretty fast,have measured in awhile
but some of ye seen the vids i posted.

My metronome doesn't go above 160. I think it can handle 200 or 250, but I basically just stop upping it around 160. Why? Any faster comes into the ****ty realm of forcing the listener to listen too much.

At the end of the day, you're telling a story, and if you're talking about 500 wpm, no one is gonna listen. I have to do a presentation on... well presentation skills. Here are some hints:

1. SLOW DOWN! Be clear and concise
2. Power of the pause. Make your point by pausing before, or after an important detail. Let it sink in, and then continue.
3. Move around! Don't stay in one spot. Get away from this "safe spot"


These I think you could all move to things you should do when playing guitar. Slow down your playing so your listener can follow along, but continue to send the same message. Don't be afraid of allowing some dead space, or play no notes. It's fine! And finally, change your melodic ideas! Even if you find this real cool sound, you need to lead them to it or play around with it.
