im trying to get into these guys, i really like what ive heard off the Lateralus album. but ive heard stuff about occult/satanic drumming and stuff, and that the drumming summons demons. what do you guys think of this? personally i think its crap, its just as ridiculous as the "diabolus in musica" or Diminished 5th(i think i heard it called the "Devils hook", altho i dont remember where) |

hahaha drumming summons demons!
sounds like something from metalocalypse lol Pickles is going to summon a demon!
I really think the weird tempo that they have(with the drummer) is really helping to create a weird feel to the songs. I like tool though, heavy stuff. |

yeah, I wouldn't worry unless a pentagram appears under you and you start hearing voices...
interesting fact though, Black Oak Arkansas is a satanic southern rock band. I think that every one of their concerts they interlude a song with saying "satan is king" backwards(or something to that effect).
That was some trippy stuff. |

yes the drumming actually does summon demons, so be careful when/where you listen to their music you don't want a demon to pop out of your stereo whe
are you serious?
i really like tool, but i can't listen to their whole albums. i HAVE all their albums, but when i listen to them it's more of a "mix tape" situation. you know, some albums i can put on and listen to from beginning to end. i think some of their CDs really have some "filler" tracks on them, but their songs that rock really effing rock.

they have some pretty awesome songs that all around are basically masterpeices. My favorite(though cliche) has got to be "Schism" because the base line mixed with the heavy drums and guitar following are just so big sounding and really gets me going, it makes me want to mosh!(and I don't mosh lol) |

Listen to "Rosetta Stoned" its like a modern "Pink Floyd trip". Yeah i have really gotten into them these past years, mainly because I have been getting into piano, and all there songs translate well on piano, especially lateralus and stinkfist |

Tool is pretty awesome. They make such epic songs. I've never heard anything about Satanic drumming before, haha; it does sound like something from Metalocalypse. |

people always tend to look for secret or deep meanings on different things, when almost everything is very superficial. sure its not a christian band, but if you analyze their lyrics youll get to know their perspective, and its not satanic.
do you believe led zeppelin was satanic? thats nuts. the entire "sold your soul" thing comes from when someone does something he shouldnt (like in corruption or abuse) and he feels bad in his interior, even when nobody else will ever know, it is only your conscience the one that will suffer; this outside of a religious background is basically giving up your cincience for a material good.
it is rumored that some of led's songs were copied from other artists, yet no proof; still i admire led zeppelin
this just as an example that people tend to use phrases without knowing the original idea of it often leads to misunderstandings |

its true, dont you watch the news... every concert they play they summon like 5 demons... but seriously its just bunch of overly religious h0mos saying that its satanic... its like robert johnson selling his soul(pretty sure its BS) for blues fame or diablous in musica |

Even some Christian music can 'sound satanic'. There is a band called Zao. I went to church with the original members and they played Christian hardcore during the late nineties. They came out with the album 'save yourself from hell' which was their 3rd album and it was extremely dark. There are no original members left in Zao now and I hear they aren't a Christian band anymore. I see Jesse (the drummer) at Walmart every once in a while. I still can't believe they came from Belpre, OH/Parkersburg, WV. |

OR buying "it" from Charlie Patton & Son House!
no, really!
(long story).

which is, in fact, True ...in a very very good way ;~)

As for Tool:
i got curious/interested, when i heard (5 or so years back?) they had acquired an opening spot on the last(or next to?) King Crimson Tour.
I mean hell, If Fripp (and Belew, etc) thought the guys had game enough to tour with then ... " mebbe i should see what the fuss is all about", I reckoned
So i checked them out.
to my ears they sounded VERY clinical and surgically 'clean'/anal-retentive, playing wise, on 10,000 Days & Lateralus, the two CDs i took for a spin.
i have found that i neither like nor dislike them(music), which is rare. So every few months i give the CDs another spin.
I was kinda digging 'Lateralus' but the over-editing and Pro-Tooling (no pun , lol) and such didn't go down well, imo.
BUT
I'll try 'em again this week!
(hey! if Robert Fripp digs 'em SOMEthing must be up!)
Still....
RAWK!

demons huh....never seen any mate, and I listen to tool alot...love eulogy on Aenima... the duck caller at the beginning is a great touch I reckon...check out 10,000 days. vicarious is awesome, and "Wings for Marie (Pt 1)
"10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2) is such a beautiful way for Maynard to honour his mums memory. A truly awesome album. The album cover is pretty damn trippy too, a most interactive experience! |

Danney Carey is awesome, and so is Maynard...my favorite songs by them are Jambi (because the drummer is ridiculous), Stinkfist (lyrical genious for obvious and deeper reasons), Sober, Vicarious, The Pot, and H.
They definately are amazing, and have a great understanding of how to connnect to their audience through their music...Also, APC (a perfect circle) is a side project Maynard sings in...it is decent and has some good songs! |

I don't know about that being a coincidence. They keep talking about the spiral forever moving outwards or whatever. I think its deliberate. It would have to be one hell of a coincidence if you ask me. |

parabol/parabola was in the top 10 on the jukebox at the bar i used to work at in college. that's what got me hooked on tool. that song is awsome.
there is a local band i saw out here called "Saence" who sounded a lot like tool both in the style of music and quality of music. unfortunately they aren't that big. i've only seen them once and the only CD they had available at the show was a single track.
but at least it was free. |
