Do you practice standing or sitting?

i've been standing when playing electric for the most part, but when practicing scales higher on the fretboard the tips of my fingers get numb, its kind of freaking me out, does anyone else experience this?

I want to see the results so i can compare how i practice to other people, which makes sense to me. Maybe you think its nonsense because you dont want to do that.

standing almost alwys. only time i ever sit is when im lookin up stuff on my compv at the same time. i say stand 99% sit 1% lol

For me it depends on guitars since currently only one of my electrics has two useable strap buttons on and neither of my acoustics have a strap.
It's roughly 50/50 though if im playing band stuff I'll play standing so I can practice rocking out, if its learning a song, playing acoustic or noodling about wells talking on msn I'll sit down.

when i practice new things i sit down but i go about 50/50

I'm pretty steady standing or sitting.
I only fall over when someone sticks a guitar in my hands!

in general when practicing i sit down caus I'm lazy, unless i want to sing very loud, very deep, or very high (I'm talking the fringes of my vocal range) in which case it always helps my breathing and posture to be standing.

at the moment I'm having a bit of difficulty trying to learn to play fast-pace funk whilst standing mainly because all the sliding barre-chords about is more difficult when i don't have a leg to rest the body of the guitar on, any suggestions for how to remedy this problem would be greatly appreciated because who ever heard of a funk guitarist sitting down through a gig?

it shouldn't matter because the guitar should be in the same spot weather you sitting or standing. So one of two things need to happen stop playing your guitar by your balls or get better poster while sitting so when you stand up it's not by your chin. Take a lesson from classical.

when i'm just messing around i sit, but once i find a riff i like i start to stand when i play it

Well ya, I think your're right it does make sense.

I think standing is better, 'case it'll help you with stretching your fingers unless you your guitar is almost stuck to your neck. I usually lower the guitar as much as I can when standing(just to imitate some metalcore guitarist) but it gets really hard when you do that.

I sit when i practice but it really makes no difference because when i stand the guitar is at the same position on my body.

I once tried playing the guitar while standing on my head. Is that considered standing? The important word is 'once'. I can play guitar both right and left handed so my friends held my feet while... Forty years later I'd say 80% sitting and 20% standing.

'In general' a lot more guitarists used to sit as nylon classical guitars were as popular as steel strings. With the growth in popularity of steel strings and electric guitars there is a lot more standing by guitarists today.

Exactly. I knew a guy in college who played it pretty much to his knees... the title "dumbass" didn't even cut it.

Strangely enough, I play piano standing and guitar sitting. Depends on where I am really.

I tend to do both. Usually I sit when I've been learning a new one for about 4 days I always sit, then I decide to practice standing whenever I feel like it. But it depends really, I prefer to sit most the time when I'm only playing, but if I'm (trying to) sing with it I find it easier to do both if I stand.

Kudo's to whoever (fergot) posted that the strap length should make sit/stand a non-issue as it(git) remains in the same position.

well I was talking about the strap, I just didn't mention the word strap.

If I'm going to playing a piece with friends, a small gathering, etc. then I always practice both sitting and standing....and I'll take the guitar in the back yard and play...the ambient background noise of cars, etc. simulates the noise that comes from a group of people.

I've witnessed a few guitarists over the years 'lose it' by any variables that are different fron when they practiced a piece in the quiet of their home sitting on the edge of a chair.

I always sit, it gives me more control over what I'm playing.

50/50 trying to see what feels better

have any of you ever tried to run up stairs while playing an acoustic and trying to keep a good strum pattern. it's basically impossible

I'm starting to stand more about 50% of the time now but at night I use headphones and I have to sit, so that makes the other 50%
