Man I thought about including Van Halen in my list because it's so important to Metal but I think they are straight Rock. Scorpions is classic.
Man! anyone who cares a rats kaboose about Thrash Metal should check out the bands: Xentrix, Nuclear Assault, Toxik, Evil Dead, and especially Wargasm!

There are many metal bands that did wonders for their genre and their time. These are more my favorites than what I would call the "best" metal bands in history.
01. Pantera - Dimebag was my inspiration to play gutiar.
02. Megadeth - My favorite band.
03. Lamb of God - Very unique sound and consistant improvement.
04. Children of Bodom - Alexi Laiho...Need I say more?
05. Arch Enemy - Classic Metal songs.
06. Trivium - Unique sound and awesome musicianship.
07. All That Remains - Awesome song composition and great riffs.
08. Mushroom Head - I like the vibe and unique sound.
09. Nevermore - Jeff Loomis = a metal guitarist.
10. Amon Amarth - Great song writers.
Wild Cards:
01. Killswitch Engage - Have enough good songs to earn them recognition.
02. Static X - Great tunes.
03. In Flames - Just plain good at what they do.
04. Luna Mortis - Phenominally talented band.

Consider this. How many metal bands do you think there are in the world? Probably a heck of a lot. How many metal bands do you think I listen to? A heck of a lot. To say that I placed Nevermore at #9 out of over 100 other metal bands that I listen to, is probably pretty good for Nevermore.

I believe his list has number one right where it should be, I've lately been listening to a lot of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc., you know the 'Granddads' of metal. Then Only about a month ago I watched Pantera 3, I think that Dimebag has as much influence on me and my overall riffing, soloing, whatever, as much as Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen.
I would put Pantera up at number 1 on my list and bump everything else down one, though I am a huge Van Halen fan
not that much into metal, though i discovered yesterday the best latin metal band. ill share it to you all metal buddies
i love the voice, and i hope you do too. this band has won a place between my top 10 metal bands... i dont like most metal bands vocalists. this one is an exception. i love that guys voice.
Aye, gotta say they got me big time. Im definately a fan. They DOES look hot, they sound hot... damn...I just cant get enough of it. They only did 2 albums so far, but im sure that these babies have a great future ahead if they stay tuned.

I'll give it a shot with my list.
1. Pantera
2. Black Sabbath
3. Killswitch Engage (I don't care what any of you say about this selection being so high, I have yet to hear any metal band combine heavier riffs with melody as well as KSE does.)
4. Metallica (before Black album, I may be the only person in the world who thinks Black was ****e. JazzMav, how do you like the use of that word? Ha! I have a good friend from Derbyshire, he says ****e all the time.)
5. Tool
6. MudVayne
7. Dream Theater
8. Sepultura
9. Six Feet Under
10. Pantera (so good, they're listed twice!!)
A pretty healthy mix. Dimebag was the best guitarist to walk the planet. Love Six Feet Under.I can really appreciate Metallica as well. Many people dont like them because of how popular they are. Now I agree that Metallica died after and justice for all..But you can't deny that they were a huge influence on the creation of modern metal. The Kill em all album was the first sign of hard vocals of its kind, which later progressed into death metal (opinion).
