I know I sound like a broken record but "coming home" by skynyrd is probably my favorite song right now. Maybe "one more time". I don't think it would fit at a sweet 16 though ;p

8. Behind Blue Eyes-The Who
9. Heaven-Clapton
10. Blue Eyes Blue-Clapton

Yeah there are so many songs to choose from that id suggest you just pick like 20 or so of your favorites and learn them. Obviously yopu could list 1000's of songs from the time period so my suggestion would be look at who your going to be playing for and decide from there, its al about demographics.

If the people at school listen to blink 182 then maybe you should play that as well. They would appreciate it more than a load of songs they've never heard before.

Not everyone knows Hendrix, I can't remember who it was who brought that up a few days ago. Non musicians are stupid - haven't you realised that yet?! Also, Smoke on the Water and Stairway to Heaven - far too cliched.

What's so bad about blink anyway? If you play a song like All The Small Things, then most of the people would know it, and then you can play lots of other stuff, and people would remember you for being the band who played blink, for future performances. If you just played stuff people didn't know then you wouldn't stick in the memory as much.

Failing that, you could do what the Lemonheads did with Mrs. Robinson.

'In the air tonight' - Phil collins (not really considered rock, but hell I love it!)

Megadeth - 'Peace sells'

Iron Maiden - '2 minutes to midnight'

Dio - 'Holy Diver'

Eddie Money - 'Baby hold on'

Scorpians - 'Rock you like a hurricane'

Pale shelter - 'Tears for fears'

Romeo Void - 'Never say never'

Accept- 'Balls to the wall' (I just like to laugh at that one really! But the guitar is kind of cool)

Ha, I feel like a spirit of the 80s I didn't know I had just came out of me and spoke out! Look into them if you want.

BTW, Emb, Another Brick In The Wall and We don't Need No Education is a commonly made mistake and they are both the huge chorus of one song. Don't be gittin' all up in muh shizz boi! lol. And BHS is right. Although, If you play a Greenday [everyone knows them, belive me] and then play a song you know is way better, you'll be able to turn others on to more types of music, and your band for playing it.

The way I see it, most people know Blink 182 or Green Day, and would know if you played one of their songs. A few days later, someone says to someone else "Hey, what did you think of [insert band name]?", and they say "Which one were they? Did they play the Blink 182 cover". You see, you'd be remembered. And seriously, Blink 182 aren't that bad, surely!

Oh, and it's three monkeys :P

I vote for SRV, anything. Pride and joy is a great tune

I also agree with blackholesun. if your going to do covers, play what the people want, if the people want blink 182, then give them blink 182. But do it in a hair metal, 80 thrash sort of why, make it your own.

I agree with tele and blackholesun, most kids in my school always ask who my favorite band is, who is Van Halen. the response I get is Van Who? my point being just what blackholesun said, most people will know Blink 182, and their music isn't as bad as you say. It may not be Metallica or Iron Maiden, but then again its not exactly bland either.

Yes, it's true everyone knows Blink 182. I even remember a local starter band 'Good Question' because they played many Blink covers in their first few concerts. But that was different, they actually liked Blink's music.

I think that if EMB had at least practiced through them a little and confirmed that he still doesn't actually enjoy playing their songs, he shouldn't. Even if it does mean it's going to be a little harder for him to spread his band's name around. I see what he means. I think the way he resents their music would be like me trying to pull off covers like from Rhianna, Lady GaGa or Eninem or some other junk I can't stand just because they're well known in my town. If he actually dislikes them enough that he hates them, then I disagree that he should play them.

you know EMB, you could always just look at Rock Band or Guitar Hero for some songs. seriously its amazing how many people will play those games, there's bound to be at least one song that is older and rocks that people will know from those games.

really you will be amazed about the reaction you get from butchering a cover song. i think the key is to really make it your own but also leave it so it's slightly recognizable.

Limp Biscuit cover of Faith is a good example. Another band did a smooth criminal.

Back in the day, my band did a beck cover off of mellow gold. truck "driving neigbors". we got a good reaction from it. somepeole thought it was original, other die hard beck fan's enjoyed the new twist on the song. we speeded it up, overdrove it and gave it a nice break.

We also were working on a TLC song "waterfalls" but we all split up before that one got finished.

You got to put your self out there and try something diffrent. if people don't like it, they will tell you.
