I have a lot of stuff so the smaller the better. And, if it sounds good and full in a tiny package that's also a plus. It's also around a hundred bucks. |

orange is the best amp made today, you can cctually hear the notes and its great sounding, i also love the vox ac's. besides tht i dont like much. solid state vox ad is good. line 6 sucks. period. i dont like peaveys cheaper amps, fenders sound horrible with pedals. never tryed the others besides rolands and all i can say is its not horrbiel...not fantastic tho. |

no name bands are better for practice amps go to your local private teacher/shop guitar (there all like that in my area{just sell simple things mostly strings and beginner stuff) they will hook you up
-side note- emb did you miss read because orange doesn't sell practice amps and a vox ac is not practice amp either |

many reasons, top one is the tone is just horrible. so many built in effects with presets, and all this, just makes the amp sound horrible. not even to mention how overpriced they are. |

Ohhhh. My Crate has a bunch of effects and its sounds great most of the time. I still want a Randall though. Hey, If I get a Randall cabinet, can I use my Crate as the head or will it blow one of them? |

the only thing to me line 6 is good for is the recording software and the practice amps cause to me all practice amps sound bad
also, i hate to sound like a butthole but have you even tried a line 6 amp EMB cause for half a year of experience you sound like you know a lot. or did u just think they suck cause of everyone on ultimate-guitar? |

have you ever heard these amps???? you gotta live in the country or something. but then again define practice amp to me it means bedroom amp that doesn't disturbed the people. that and watts don't define how loud something is, that whole tube statement defines your ignorance |

now we don't need to be calling people ignorant. you guys are both right. practice amps are supposed to be quiet, but there are A LOT of practice amps that are tube amps. and i would have to agree with EMB, i was at a party with my Gibson and some kid brought in a line-6 amp and i tried it. i hated it! the only reason though is because i like tone and soul, that amp sounded like every note was forced out and crappy. for all you speed demons, i guess it would be a good amp to play with. but not for me! |

It's a given that you're not going to get the same tone out of a Line 6 modeling amp as you are out of some huge effing Marshall tube amp. That doesn't mean the Line 6 sucks. Their tone is fine when compared with any other solid state amp I've heard, and the versatility the presets provide is invaluable. They're also much more reliable than a tube amp (duh?), and give consistent tone at pretty much any volume levels. |

im not comparing line 6 to any tube amps, i acctually have a vox ad15vt xl, same price as a line 6 spider 3 and its solid state also. not saying that its gona get the tone of the century but beats the hell outta the line 6, i dont understand why people like them, ther tone draining amps, the solid state and tubes, just drains your tone, very thin tone, horrible with pedals, all these built in stuff maakes the tone suffer, only plus is great versatility, but seriously, who needs 13 diferent types of phasers, and 400+ preset channels. i doubt anyone who has a line 6 has used over 20 of those, and frome what ive used of my friends line 6, they all sound similar.
and no im not talking of ignorance, the amps ive named, ive tryed liked, but havent bought, i bought my marshall b/c it had the best tone, fullest, richest. the best period, i dont give a *** about all these effects, if anything they drain tone. and btw line 6's i think are like 300 or 350, a simple vox is just like 200 and its better...
also for you gain people. let me tell you, ive found many players who couldnt play clean, i use gain and need it for sustain. but i practice clean, play covers clean(when im practicing themm) everything clean, then once i have it down to the point i know it, its accurate and everything then i kick in my distortion pedals, too much gain destroys the tone, and hides your mistakes, and practicing fast scales and licks with them to get fast is just stupid, b/c its gona hide ur mistakes and make you sound better. |

Aye, and that is what can be heard in your playing, your practising method start to carry fruits and really shine in your playing that Ive heard.
But I have to say that Im very veryvery distortion freak, but for me I categorize distortions... edgys, creams, overdrives, crunches... and I honestly think, that there are bit exaggeration when saying that playing with distortions hides mistakes... its not. I hear immediately if someone do mistake, are there distortion or not. It can be heard.
Also ofcourse its good to practise with cleans, its recommended by all the good players in this site also. But I have to ask, why its so bad that you sound better? For me it gives kicks, and I really need Kicks even when im practising. Whole guitar playing for me is having kicks, moods...stuff you know... and I just dont get it when im with cleans, if I dont practise a song style that is for cleans...(that one gives me another kind of kicks....) :)
Cheers!

I can understand where EMB's coming from. When I first got my Digitech GNX 3 I went fx barmy. I'd never had so many toys to play with! But when I started listening to some of the stuff I'd 'learned' using fuzz etc but through a clean channel, I sounded crap and had to start re-learning. |

H&K because it sounds great with anything, very tube like(yes, its a solid state) tone in a small great amp, perfect for home practice use. It gets great tone at low volumes, and sounds even better when at higher volumes. |
