My kids do like it when I play the guitar. Jacob will do his dance (running in circles and shaking his head) when I play Deftones' "Like Linus" for some reason, it's really cute. And Jordan (my girl) will smile and squeal when I play the blues for her. I am still a novice but at least they enjoy my playing!
I can listen to music. I usually have my iPod on when I am at work.

I have an Epiphone Les Paul silverburst, and a simple Vox amp for now. The only pedal I have is a Boss DS1. Money is tight for right now, so I can't buy any new stuff. Which honestly is fine to me, because I need to work on improving and not as much on effects for the time being. I do like to use a clean sound with some reverb when I practice jazz and scales and whatnot.
Other than that, I have an Ibanez AEL20E that is blue that I like a lot. I play that most of the time for now and try to learn some songs that help me learn chords. As I said, I am still pretty new to this and am trying hard to learn the theory first when I have time to play and practice, so anything that can help me learn more chords, learn more theory, that's great.

are you taking lessons?
where do you buy your gear?
No lessons. I am trying to learn on my own. I am currently going through an intro to jazz workbook and sometimes go through an intro to blues workbook as well. I like to research things on the interwebs as well when I get some time. That is working so far, so I am going to keep with that for now and hopefully I can just keep learning that way forever!
I get my strings from a local music shop and I try to support them when it is reasonably priced. Both of my guitars I got new on eBay. I know that sounds horrible, but it was 50% less than what I would have spent compared to somewhere like Guitar Center and I am not rich enough to just blow that extra money to support stores.

Do you follow any particular training schedule?
I don't. I keep trying to get in at least 30 minutes a day worth of work on scales and other things, but life seems to continue to get in the way. Last week for example, I had two days where I left the house for work at 6:00 am and Tuesday I got home at 9pm and Wednesday I had bowling to make up as well and got home at midnight. That puts a cramp in a schedule. But I do need to get better about this so I can improve!

Case: I will pull for Tennessee over anyone, since I got both of my degrees there, but I have a fondness in my heart as well for Michigan, since I grew up fairly close to Ann Arbor, MI.

well this a lityle of the topic(srry timm) but obama eill not prove he is an american citizen,he wont show his birth certificate, this has nothin to do with being muslim,it has to do with wether he was born in the us or not..
Wether he was born here or not, they can't just strike him from the history books.
What's done is done, and whenhis term is up, he probably won't be re-elected.
If he is Muslim, has he done anything to prove it? To disprove it? Is it hurting anyone?
The fact is Obama is our president, and that won't change until his time is up, he quits, or he is unable to serve.

How about being ripped off by every company you see?

Agreed. I still don't get your angle on that GShredder... 3 years ago it had some relevance but definitely not now, regardless if he runs again or not(either way, next presidential term is going to be pretty nasty I reckon).

Why did Heather cross the road?
If you had one day left to live, what would you do during that day?
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
If you could only choose one, which of your music inspirations would you meet?
Heather crossed the road to get some delicious ice cream!
If I had one day left to live, I would absolutely spend it with my family. No question that it would be a good day.
In 5 years, I see myself continuing my career and enjoying time with my wife and 3 kids (we will have another within 5 years). Hopefully I will have convinced my wife to turn the garage into a studio over time where I would have my guitars, a bass, recording equipment, and a nice dw drumset. Wishful thinking on the latter, but it won't be without effort!
I would probably want to meet Matt Cameron. I know, I know, shame on me to say that in a guitar forum, but he has inspired me musically throughout my formative teenage years, so that'd definitely be who it would be.

how do you feel about the crisis in liby? do you think its a ploy to distract people from.the fact that obama may not an american citizen?
gs the democrat..
The only news I really care to follow right now is on ESPN. I find the vast majority of other news just brings me down and is filled with negativity, so honestly I am ignorant to what is going on in Libya. Also, I cannot control whether Obama is American or not, so I choose to ignore that question.
I know, that's a pretty good way to avoid questions. :o)

I feel humanity isn't any worse than it was in the past. So many people think it is worse, but I really don't see how. Look at the past. Look at people like Hitler. Napoleon. Vlad. etc etc etc Humanity has always been full of people doing horrific things, it hasn;t changed. I do think though that people (at least in the US) need to be more respectful. I think that people need to realize that their life isn't so bad that they need to be filled with absurd amounts of negativity.
I think my children's future will be good, because my wife and I will work to instill good morals and values in them. I understand that it takes more than us, so we will be trying to surround them with good people as much as possible and hopefully they will make good decisions.
I think companies have always tried to rip people off, so I feel normal?
As for the future of humanity, I think it won't get better. There will always be negative people and always be people trying to gain control of things and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It's sad, but again, just like the news outlets, I try to ignore this and focus on the positives in my life.

brian---when can we hear you post a piece of music? It can be anything.
When I am good enough to share something. :o) Plus, I want to get a loop pedal and some recording equipment and the funds aren't there yet for that. I'd like to do something jazz related, make a backing loop and improv over it. Even though I know it will be marginal at very best, that si what I want to do. hahaha

How did you get started playing guitar?
I have always loved music. I am sure everyone knows by now, I played the drums for over a decade growing up and played everything from classical in the band, to also doing marching band, and jazz band, as well as playing a garage band as well. So my music love has just expanded to guitars recently, when I wanted to learn.
So I went out and bought a cheapo Fender starter kit. Pretty horrible guitar, would go out of tune very very quickly, but I didn't want to invest a lot of money into a guitar if it was just going to be something that was a passing interest. Once I realized I did enjoy learning and playing as much as I did, I upgraded to my Epi and my acoustic guitar as well.
What lit that spark again to get me to buy the starter kit? I was just listening to my music on my computer while playing a little poker and I heard Dream Theater's "Another Day". I continue to be blown away by how beautiful Petrucci's solo is in that song. It just made me want to play guitar and eventually learn that song. That and SRV's version of "Little Wing" (better than the original imo). So I decided to learn. Maybe one day I will be able to play them! :o)
