What fretboard wood do you prefer?

Personally I like Rosewood, Its whats on all my guitars.
I also really like the feel of ebony, its so smooth, but I'm not used to it so it feels kind of weird.
I pretty much have a (probably) irrational dislike for maple fretboards. I dont know why

I have guitars with all 3 but rosewood is what I like best.

Rosewood.
All the guitars ive owned have had Rosewood fretboards with a maple neck.

I also have an irrational dislike of maple fretboards. I dont like the look.
Im not too familiar with ebony, but i prefer the look of rosewood.

I almost never touch the fretboard, even with really low action, the only time i do is on bar chords or if a string breaks and i dont have my "key" for my locking nut.

I like Rosewood too. I've played maple once and it was really slick feeling, but nice to play. I only like it on Fenders though. A black tele or strat with a maple neck always looked cool to me. I've never played an ebony fretboard, so I don't know about those. I've never really liked the look of them anyway though.

to be honest i dont know the difference between them and i should... I have 2 les pauls one has rosewood i think... and my gibson has ebony.

My guitars both have rosewood necks, but I played a strat with a maple neck and fell in love with it.

I have a fender copy made in korea and have no clue what the wood is.

if its dark its probably rosewood, if its light its maple

I really like Ebony but I prefer Rosewood. Ebony is the hardest of the three, very smooth, and is a great tonewood. Maple is very hard too but but typically has a gloss finish that makes it smooth but not natural feeling. Rosewood I would say is the perfect combination of all properties you would want for a fretboard. It's hard but not as hard as the other two and has a somewhat grainy feel.

it also depends on how the wood is cut too. Ive played very smooth rosewood, such as my schecter. and very grainy and rough rosewood, typically on cheap starter or knockoff guitars.

That's true Bodom. My acoustics fretboard is grainy and my Schecter is smooth. (sounds kinda dirty. "my Schecter is smooth")Ha!

Ebony. For no real particular reason. Rosewood and Maple are of course good choices. Guess it is just an excuse to buy a few different guitars.

lol, producing Marble necks would put a company out of business so fast it's not even funny. Plus...the guitar might be a BIT top-heavy.

I like maple on my Telecaster, mostly for looks and the way it slides when my fingernails hit it on bends. People say maple makes more twang or brightness, but I'm not sure there is real evidence of that.

I like the look though. Rosewood on my Schecter looks good, but I really dig that tree of life inlay on BBT's iirc. Question though: with that much inlay does it feel weird? I suppose with super Jumbo Frets you don't even get down to the fretboard much.

as far as i can tell there is no obstruction from the inlays. I would think that the Mother of Pearl (or whatever it is, i dont remember) is actually smoother than the wood.

i choose ebony

i prefer the maple look hands down, no questions asked on fender guitars. on gibson guitars the rosewood or ebony fretboard doesn't look as bad to me.

i like the maple/maple neck on fenders because (in appearance) it's like one solid piece of wood. of course there's a skunk stripe, and a truss rod running through it, but it gives the feeling and appearance that it's one solid block, which is cool.

i prefer an "open" neck to a bound neck. my ibanez has a set neck with cream binding over a rosewood fingerboard. the rosewood isn't as nice as it was on my old indonesian squier, but the neck is definitely nicer. i do not dislike the bound neck, but i prefer the regular style.
