I need help please

I need a better guitar for recording purposes. I'am looking in the 900 dollar range. What do you recommend?

what style of music?

A mix of classical, jazz, and rock.

Acoustic or electric??

i'll assume you are looking for new guitar. honestly, G&L makes some amazing guitars for the money. i'd also check out ibanez and Gretsch. i'm sure there's lots of other opinions though

are you talkin neoclassical shred kinda thing or actual classical guitar? if you want classical guitar you should get a nylon stringed guitar, they go sound good with jazz too (i think) but not really for rock

i think you should either get a tele or look at a hollow body. id probably say a hollowbody.

depends shred classical or classical classical. if shred classical id so a strat/tele.

but hollowbody is my choice, however i dont have much experience with them

shred classical would be like Yngwie Malmsteen or Jason Becker.

and classical would be beethovan with out the yngwie wankery :) acctually i prefer bach...

hollowbody basically has a much warmer sound and in my opinion in a much more diverse guitar, can be used acoustically, or electric, with the right pups it can be a sweet rock guitar (check out malcom young from ac/dc, chuck berry etc etc etc...) and is probably one of the most chosen jazz guitars. however i have absolutly no clue whats good in it or not... however i know gibson makes a **in 335 or any of their hollowbodies but are a bit more moeny

I'm gonna' promote a swedish guitar brand, hehe. The Hagström Viking is a nice hollowbody guitar, which probably works for those genres you mentioned.

I want something with a really good clean sound.

hollowbody for sure then. rings and rings.

The one I want for the same styles is the Schecter C1EA Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar with Piezo Pickup. It's around your budget but they dont make them anymore so you will have to search or maybe buy one used. They are great guitars. I own a C-1 plus but not a semi-hollow.

shred classical to me is like moonlight sonata 3rd movement, yngwie and jason, well mainly yngwie is neo-classical metal. jason could play other things though, so hes not really neo-classical

I've played a couple schecters.
By far my favorite brand.

If you find one with coil tapping (most) you can get really clean tones on single coil setting (tone pulled up) or really good heavy distortion on humbucker setting (tone pushed in) or anything in between.

Most also have a Floyd rose option if you want.

Btw. By most I mean every one I've ever seen.

Schecter frickin rocks man, highly recommended!

Ive got a Schecter Hellraiser C1-FR, I can only recommend it. However the EMG's are not the greatest when it gets to acoustic-like, very clean tones.

The first soundfile is the EMG pickup, the secon one a seymour duncan invader.

But besides that, it is a great guitar, with a coil tap, amazing thing. YOu can get loads of sounds out of it. Very good start imitation as well. Look the schecter ones up in youtube, there are quite a few tests on them with people playing them!

i'm pretty sure that one he posted has the same Seymour duncans as mine, maybe a little different but they have an incredible clean tone

They aren't that cheap if you are going for the better ones? At least in Europe they are at about 1000€ (1350$ That is i think!) The prices recently increased by about 100€!

@BBT Yeh, the Seymour Duncan invaders are amazing...hell, I am thinking about getting them. Such an incredible clean tone, great sustain, very versatile. Only with the crunched and highly distorted sounds I think the EMG's are slightly better in the files he posted. however, the lead guitar sounds are sharper with the Seymour D.

schecters in general? Not sure, but I think it has to do with them being overshadowed somewhat by the other big name brands(ESP, Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, Jackson). Most people I talk to have rarely ever seen or played a Schecter, which is a shame since they're such a good brand. Every schecter I've played so far(aside from one tuned to E Standard with 12 Gauge strings) has played beautifully and I've always enjoyed the tone from pickups(mind you this is with demo pedals at a guitar shop too) that are stock with it(guitars were in the 600-900 range). Though I should also mention that LTD(ESP) makes some fantastic Les Paul style guitars with Set Necks and full bodies for about $400-$650 that are also extremely nice. Might be worth comparing the two side by side and see which one you like better :)

With most of the guitars in that price range you don't need to worry about having bad recording quality. Look at Alex Berserker, he also plays with a SChecter Hellraiser C1 FR and his videos on youtube are great. The recording done is amazing!

Not to mention the $700 is musicians friend pricing. It's actually a $1000 guitar. The pickups are Duncan ,custom humbucker & '59 humbucker. I play a C-1 elite from the same price range and I find it satisfying. The action can't be beat.

Think about amps and stuff too man, if you haven't already. You can have the best guitar in the world, but if it's hooked up to a bad amp, you will have inferior sound.

fwiw, I got my Epiphone Les Paul on eBay brand new for $500 and I really think it has a nice sound to it.

Im nervous about buying a guitar over the internet. To be shipped ups. Should i be. Is it safe?

Maybe you want to play the guitar before you buy it? I would probably go to a music store around your place and play the guitar once before you finally decide to buy it. Also think about the warranty when you look at buying a guitar. Some may be cheaper, but they dont have any warranty or something.

My cousin bought a custom Explorer w/ Floyd Rose, custom neck, tuners, pickups, everything.
It broke during shipping and the warrenty didn't cover it.

They are inexpensive because they are made overseas. I think Korea. They use all of the good hardware and quality materials but not the best. The pick ups are "Duncan Design" which is an exact copy of the OEM. But, they are all set up in the U.S.

Just a thought: One thing I can never understand is why manufactures don't put in the extra effort to set up a guitar before they put it on the rack. They don't put good strings on and set up the intonation. I've taken $1000 guitars off the rack to play and they have 8 guage strings on them, it's out of tune, not intonated, and the strings are too high. Why?

The guitar you posted the picture of (Tempest Custom) is different than the guitar you posted the amazon link to (tempest Standard) the Standard has Duncan design, the Custom has Seymour Duncans

I bought my guitar used off ebay and it was fine. if you do buy online, make sure you have shipping insurance for it!

If you get seymour duncan humbuckers, and you keep some decently heavy strings (i hate light strings, especially for anything jazzy), you'll probably get a good sound. Thats what I have, and i love it!
