Hey. Name's Simon. Been playing since I was 11 or 12ish. I own a 12 string Takamine and a 6 string Epiphone electric. Just started playing electric this spring and am glad I did. never thought I could play a lot because I seemed to have been blessed with short fingers. :(

I currently have a lil over 120 songs Favorited on my youtube account. All songs that I play along to.

I know only two types of chord arpeggios so far as I mostly play rhythm. I can read a bit of music and am now just beginning to understand how to read tabs lol I own a Mustang I Fender practice amp which is way cool considering the effects that are preloaded as well not to mention all the presets that can be DL'd in the Fender community.
I've tinkered with some drop D and half step tuning. I love Disturbed but sadly found out a lot of their stuff is in C tuning so I'll be needing to invest in another guitar as yeah...
I've never gotten into any theory, I think this will be my next step and really don't know where to start.
Would also like to try my hand at some lead.
I'm into everything from Christian Contemporary to Metal. lol go figure. If anyone has advice it's more than welcome. :)
I've been using the chord trans poser here at this website for a little over a year now without realizing there's a community here lol
Looking forward to the journey and hoping to get to know some of you along the way. Sooooo excited lol

Hi Daniel.
Well you've seen somewhat the extent of my skill so far in the vids I posted. I'm wondering about any advice as to what next as far as theory goes?

@Heavy that's not really the sort of question I can answer without knowing what you already know and how well you know it.

When learning theory I feel the best way to do it is going intervals, scales (major and minor), chords, cadence, modulation and then after that I feel it's more down to what you feel your weaknesses are.

Just my opinion though.

Hello everybody,

I live in Brussels (Belgium).

I'm quite fond of music, and I like a lot of tunes, songs & pieces in a vast range of different genres & styles.

I'm definitely in love with my acoustic guitar. It's got nylon strings, and doesn't weigh a lot. It produces a very nice & clear sound.

I've always liked to play very simple minimalist stuff, and now I would like to make a little progress and learn a few more chords and techniques I could add to whatever it is I come up with.

I can only hope I came to the right place :-)

@thatguitarguy:

thank you.

Here's some more introducing myself:

- my favorite note is the 'D' - the 'drop of golden sun' - and I especially like to play it on the B-string (standard tuning).

- at present, my favorite chord progression is this one:

Dmin/maj7 to Dmaj to Edim7 and back.

I also like to alternate between C7, G7 and D7.

As I said: very simple and minimalist stuff.

- I like playing reggae with a "6/8" (or "12/8") feel to it.

- I like the sound of the banjo, and I'm crazy about the sound of the saz.

What more can I say?

Feel free to call me Useless. It's not so much that I am useless, but I am. It's more like I cannot be used. Either way it beats my older brother Notworth A*. I speak with a southern accent and I play in the same. I'm 59 and a product of my environment, married to the Queen of Peace, and I pursue the level of Love that The Prince of Peace and the Buddha (500 yrs earlier) brought to us. I try to write songs for the angels to sing. My legs are crippled,

Welcome canova. If you can pass college level math, you will probably do fine with guitar. As long as you practice.

Hi Useless. I hope your environment is a product of you too.

Hello BrandiQuicksilver: If you havg around here long enough, you will find some additional favorite bands.

Because:
1. The physical act of playing guitar is a 'hard science'.
2. Dedication and practice will allow you to succeed at college and those same traits are invaluable for learning guitar.
3. The concepts: Modes, intervals, time signatures and many more are easily expressed through mathematical concepts and parallels.
4. Math and music can be abstract or concrete.
5. Most Acoustic Guitars are shaped like a distorted infinity symbol.
6. Your 12th fret is .5(x) where x is the length of the string between the nut and bridge.
7. The word Math is four letters and the word Guitar is six letters.;)
8. Something about string vibrations.

I stumbled about this place lookin for people interested in jammin, looks like theres a good spirit and people working their skills around here :)
Guess I cant offer much knowledge on guitar, still a beginner myself, but maybe I could offer some drumtracks for playalong delight :)
A good start into the new year to all!

Hello everyone. I've only been playing guitar since last december so I don't know much theory :P I do know how to read sheet music though, since I learned keyboard for 3 years.

I started playing lead a few months ago. Right now, I'm learning scales.

I'm 14 years old.

I only have an acoustic guitar but I'm saving up for an electric :)

Hello Fellow strummers, shredders and pickers!!!!

I'm a born again rocker! I played guitar for about 10 minutes in the late 80's and after helping my folks move and finding the old rotten guitar I've found a renewed interest.

I've been playing around three years now, I took a few lessons on the but stopped. had some issues with my teacher i guess.

Nice Site I imagine I'll be sticking around for a while

Hi,

Just joined...

Also am a beginner and playing lap style. Nerve damage in my left hand prevents me from playing Spanish style. Currently staying with Open D tuning. Like all sorts of music...but mostly old school folk and rock...although I tend to like acoustic more than electric.
I am playing a Weissenborn style acoustic but have a nice electric steel.

Have designed both electric and acoustic lap guitars and resonators. Designed and had built the first 30" scale length Weissenborn baritone some years ago.
They are now a common instrument...the builder that made mine has since built and sold many others.

Looking forward to hang out here and learning.

Cheers,
RonB
