Band names you hate

Are there band names you hate so much that you've never listened to one of their songs?

Someone posted a Pennywise song on my FB. I don't know who they are or what songs they do. When I saw it, I could of clicked and listened but my gut reaction was to close my FB page! Why is that? (I guess I'm in a hate mood!)

And oh yeah. Metallica. I love Metallica but I hate their name. It's lame. I heard Sanitarium on the radio and didn't know who did that song. My friend told me it was Metallica and I was shocked.

Green Day - To me the name says the kind of "punk band" they really are. Pop.

any band that is from a "-core" genre. They usually have stupid names--like Asking Alexandria. What are we asking Alexandria about? Are we trying to get a girl named Alexandria to go to prom? Are we asking her to stop playing such terrible tunes all the time? Are they asking about the ancient Egyptian city Alexandria? anyways...

Here's a couple names that were *suggested* by an old band member about 5 months ago(I had no say honestly)

The first made no sense to me; sounded more confusing than cool.
The second... just sounds like a metalcore band name. Might as well have suggested "Evening" XD

The reality is that the list is significantly shorter if you go with names that are cool. Most names for bands are just stupid. The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Killswitch Engage, Minus the Bear, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Cinderella, White Snake, Screaming Trees, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. All dumb. And I like many of those bands listed too, lol, but band names are duuuumb.

Now that you mention it, you're right! There are'nt many band names that are cool. I'm trying to think of one that I really like and I can't. Oh! I just thought of one: Black Sabbath

Guns n Roses

I don't like most bands with one-word names.

I do like the name Stone Temple Pilots for some reason though. Good tunes too.

Fun Fact: STP originally meant Shirley Temple's **, but their record company or someone made them change it. They like the STP logo so much the just changed it to Stone Temple Pilots.

I agree with Metallica being a crappy band name. Others would be,

Fourplay - The sexual inuendo in the name aptly adds an unecessary stereo-type to the genre.

Rush - For the opposite reason. The name doesn't have anything to do with the music nor does it fit the genre.

Others I dislike would be, Hellyea, Dying Fetus, August Burns Red... And any band named after a member of the band: Van Halen, Simon & Garfunkel and so on.

I dig names like, Godsmack, Godforbid, Trivium, Devildriver, Megadeth, Pantera and In Flames.

A band name is something for the audience, even if the music isn't.

Yeah. I don't know about Slayer. It's another example of how the name does'nt really fit the band. When I first heard the name Slayer, I thought of a 80's metal hair band or some kind of rock act. The band is actually heavy, dark, and scary. The name Slayer has more of a positive image to me. As in someone who slays bad people.

@mac slayer makes me think of a serial killer, so I guess it's all down to opinion.

Also Bombay bicycle club, three doors down and cage the elephant (I think that's their name)

Now free the elephants that would be a better name, less images of people rounding up elephants into cages and making them do backflips and other novel tricks

ahahahahhahaha i totally agree with this. there are band who i know i hate just by hearing their name. "between the dead and me" ooooh so scary. "panic! at the disco" why are you panic! ing?

i hate puns. so lame. there is a good dallas, TX band named "the secret machines" they are good, and i like their name. but they have a song called "now here is nowhere". ugh make me puke.

here's a fun fact: nickelback's band name was inspired by their lead singer, freddy kruger, getting change at a gas station. so inspired!

i like band names that are named after something that inspired the band. "radiohead" was named after a talking heads track. "pinback" was named after a character in john carpenter's (awesome) first movie, "dark star".

names that don't mean anything... well, they don't mean anything.

OH ALSO i kind of disagree about "tool". i think the point they were making is that they are a "tool" or apparatus to be used. it has a double meaning. it wasn't just a name that sounded cool. double meanings are alright.

I never thought there were dumb names of bands in music. I always thought there would be something that I didnt get about the names like a hidden meaning or an inside joke or something like that.

There are many I think sound foolish, but they grow on you so they don't seem so foolish anymore.

@DarkRiff, Haha! That is a ridiculous name but not ridiculous enough to be funny or interesting. However, I thouht mc 900 ft Jesus was crafty and funny. I know nothing of the band but it cracked me up.

I like Black Flag though. But I think its because it's grown on me.

I never liked any of the Ice_____ rappers either. Not the rappers themselves but the name. Just stupid. My Jewish friend used to say he was gonna be a rapper and name himself Iceberg. Ha!
