try the band P-Funk, mainly the Funkadelic part(two parts to the band Parliament and Funkadelic). Try "maggot brain" album first, everyone I show P-Funk too loves em, or I beat them with a stick until they do (don't make me get the stick I will)
A lot of what was dubbed 'psychedelic' was just pop management cashing in on the 'real deal.' I always considered Cream to be a fusion between jazz (Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce) and Blues (Clapton). The only psychedelic thing I found about them was the cover of 'Disraeli gears'.

Well, I dont think these mayb so psychedelic, but very weird... I started to thinkin that so many experienced musicians put out some suberb stuff on their later dayz... Like this, Mad Juana... Sami Takamäki aka Sam Yaffa is Legendary musician in my country, punk rock based dude who played with Slash and Steve Stevens to name few, put out recently of very strange stuff, singer is Karmen, his Wife.
and
Same thing fits to this man, Blackmores Night is unbelievable fantastic music and I think Ritchie Blackmore need no Introduction.
The Butthole Surfers - Hairway to Steven is a pretty cool album to listen to in an altered state iirc.
But what is Psychedelic music? Is it a lot of multitracking? Is it reverb and a swirling Leslie chorus? Envelope filters, wah? Or is it what sounds trippy when using halucinogens?
Really even Buddy Holly sounds trippy when using halucenogens.
So maybe it's slow songs that have lots of stereo panning and whooshing sounds? I always thought Psychedelic music was a product of the late 60's and had less to do with the sound then the fact that critics labeled certain bands psychedelic.
I used to have a quadraphonic receiver that had built in reverb. It had a joystick for mixing the sound between the four speakers. You could move the joystick around and make the music swirl around the room. You could make Perry Como sound psychedelic.
I always thought Pink Floyd was Art Rock, Dark New Age, Electric Orchestral or possibly Acid Rock because they often are not even playing something that sounds like Rawk music. Segments like the begining and end of Interstellar Overdrive are few and far between.
It seems like one of the defining factors in this style of music is using drones and held-over tones, using either sustain pedals, tape delays or a ton of reverb and thickly layered effects.
Hello I started to read some of the posts here and there are ton Psychedelic Music to choice from and they come from every genres. reggae, rock, 80's, indi and etc. but for me Grateful dead is the master at it.
