I figured people on the forum wouldn't like the music itself - but my point to this was to see if you guys would be interested in a vocalized singer in your bands? Metal, Rock or whatever you want... my question is would you go for it?
I would think if people weren't able to find a singer, they could easily use something like this as a replacement until they can find one or just from then on... I personally think it'll really benefit music as a whole - bands solo singers, song writers and producers could all benefit from this. But again, that's my opinion. :)
the first one sounded quite emotional to me, i havnt heard the others yet. now that you mention it jazz, it doesnt sound like a real person. are you an opera singer couldnt sing this lol. i liked this a lot, but thats because i like EVERYTHING....execpt blues (dont ask it just doesnt appeal to me) (well i guess steve ray is ok but thats all)

I didn't particularly care for the style of music, but I do like the idea of it. I think that as technology advances, these vocal-synths will become more realistic and sound even better.
I sort of view it like drum machines. Early drum machines didn't sound like a whole lot like real drums, but now they have gotten better. They still haven't replaced live drums (and I doubt they ever will), but many musicians use them. I think these vocal-synths can be used in a similar way, perhaps by people who like the sound of them more, or if they don't have a person who can sing.
So overall, I do like the idea. I think it can be a really valuable tool!

I am not opposed to the idea, because as I said, if people like this type of vocals, then who am I to tell them it shouldn't be around? As for whether or not I personally like it or would listen to it, I'd pass.
I think grx makes some really good points about drum machines. But I hate those too! lol

Definitely pretty interesting. Not the music, as you stated above, but the tools used in the process. I have been debating buy an electric "choir" or "vocalist" for some time now. Certainly nothing like in the videos, but the same concept I am sure.
Do you have a link to hardware that they made this. For me it sounds that it IS singed, but used Vocoder which blends synth sound and vocal tracks together in the key of keyboard. I might be wrong thou.

PS. I found that vocaloid thing made by Yamaha. But I still think it uses practically same idea than vocoder does.

That's their official website and it talks about the program. I don't really know what they based it from; if they were inspired by vocoder then I think it's a good choice in inspiration and expands it's capabilities.
BTW: GRX - Welcome back dude!! Been ages since you've been on here!
Miku Hatsune - voice of future? that is the translation isnt it?...
well, maybe not... but still the technology and idea that it is fool to music industry ignore it. I could see many possibilities in electro, ambient and techno music.
I took testing software version of vocaloid2, I didnt like the GUI, it was kind of unprofessional. I didnt managed to get words out of it in english or in my language, but some "IIIIIIIIIII" and "OUUUUU" and stuff like that... maybe because it was japanese, I think there is "English version" of it also. Dont know if hardware versions work better.
I plan to test vocaloid 1 too, when I got chance to it.
anyway, my analyze is that its cool addition, but not sound or voice of the future :)
I havent been able to listen to it because I'm at work but I think it's a cool idea but only for certain applications. This adds the missing piece of the puzzle in creating a song complete with all digital instruments and voices. The idea that someone could sit at a computer and create a whole orchestra of music complete with real human sounding voices is incredibly interesting to me. Then again, someone who is good enough and has enough soul to create someting so interesting probably would want real musicians that could play with soul. Furthermore, musicians are a pain in the a** and are expensive!
I don't know. Just thinking out loud. When technology works it's great but when it doesnt......!

Yep, and that's why I think this will never wipe out human singing. Since each person has their own musical tastes, there will still be people who prefer the old ways, simply because it sounds better to them (which is a perfectly valid reason! :))

BBT, you suck balls man. Justin Beiber is lower that crap imo. ¬.¬ grrrr.
Majority of the time people can't be bothered to read previous comments from me but I INSIST on reading above!! cba typing it again.
@ Empirism -
Miku is Japanese and she's been programmed to speak japanese only, so when you try and get her to speak any other language it's VERY difficult to get her to say what you want her to say. And I'm not saying that "Miku" is the voice of the future - but the idea of an andriod singing for you.
Perhaps I showed it to you all too soon, but personally I think this is a great start to something big.
@ Everyone,
I defintely agree that nothing will be as "alive" as real humans - even when it comes to VSTs - humans beat that to a T, and always will be in my opinion. BUT what I am saying is that this type of technology (even stuff like guitar pro) is very useful to the modern musician - which is why I think it's a great start to something.
Oh yeah, soz... correction to translation. "Hatsu" = First "ne" = voice.
And yeah, Im a bit with Jazz, I never underestimate technology what it comes to music or actually anything else. If you know what is Shimon, he is a robot that can actually improvisize what it "hears". Check this out
Ive seen it also jamming with live band, its quite amazing project. Anyway... these all new technologies are very cool additions and probably grow very big, but I dont believe also they can ever replace musicians because their improvising is also "programmed" to some rules, that musicians can take over.
So dont get people wrong Jazzy, Guitar and music even still in these days have many conservative ways.
actual drum samplers are ued a lot in spots,tv,electronic music etc etc, also vocoders have been used a lot in past decades, they are used in todays music and im sure they will be used in the future
40 years ago, who'd imagine samplers,MIDI,Digital recording and everything that is going on today, and that has changed how we actually listen, think and feel music
this is part of the evolution, and in my opinion,i rocks!! of course a softsynth will never be able to be the next Axl Rose or Michael Jackson, not anytime soon, but who knows?
sorry ^_^ thats just what i thought first time i heard it. the technology these days is pretty crazy. but these programmed machines just will never replace people
Hmm, I expected this kind of stuff, well in vocaloid there is possibility to alter gender, I wished it could work for little more "raw touch", but hey, you cant expect raw touch from that looking girl haha...but anyway, it could be cool to find more "Punkish" style stuff from vocaloid, now they are all high and clean, not crispy and low what I like in Rock style music.
totally loved the video thou, somehow it reminds me of blackhole sun LOL!...
Can't have a Vocaloid Thread without "Black Rock Shooter" :P or "Double Lariat"
But that's just some of this Otaku's favorites. Vocaloid's definitely can't replace people but it does create a interesting alternative for musical styles and could very well become much more well known as time goes on. After all Hatsune Miku was only just born August 31st and that's only three years ago. I guess my main point is that this technology will continue to grow and develop it's gotten really far in only three years and I expect there to be much more in the future.
