Hows where you live?

Hey so im bored here, im curious whats it like where you live... i dont mean pics of your houses lol or stalker maps to stalk you 0.o i mean like cool pictures of what your town is like, pretty places around where you live an your opinion, im curious about other places in the world and i love to see beautiful places... ill start with some pictures i took on my bike while biking where i live :) long island new york, mainly around the Brookvilles(northern long island)





sorry about the next one.. that tree got in my way, even though you cant tell it was a moving picture, and right behind that tree is the most quaint beautiful bench with a heart in the middle with tall grass surrounding it with a sole horse living there. i think of it as hippie heaven. and it is. one day ill write a song about that specific place..


last one, possibly my favorite. sorry for the ***ty quality they were taken on my phone while biking besides the first two which were taken in a beautiful park where i bike to, bring my guitar, chill and write music there... and other stuff...

I'll look for any nice photos of my city I might have taken but I suggest everybody only posts pictures that they have taken because I find that way it's more realistic, you know, since we know you've been there.

Where I live...that's such a hard question to answer without giving a classic british answer of saying "it's alright". A nice little bit of trivia about it instead would be good:
- My house is around 30m away from the line which divides the planets western and eastern hemispheres. Also known as the Greenwich Meridian line.
- The town is former home to David Gilmor and Jimmy Page.
- Home to the United Kingdom (and former world) headquarters for Scientology where l.ron hubbard used to live.
- local to the home of winnie the pooh in ashdown forest

I live in Lake Forest CA.
Pros:
1. You could Snowboard and then surf in the same day!
2. It almost never cold. Lows in the middle of winter may get to 50s but that's it. It's mostly sunny and the 70s year round. We do get rain and overcast days next to the beach though.
3. Lot's of music stores!
4. Lot's of places to eat and stores of all kinds all around
5. I know this sounds bad but, lot's of good lookin people!
6. Lot's of roads and freeways
7. Movie centers and comedy clubs
8. A plethora of venues to see acts of all kinds
9. There's a huge technology presence
10. Lots of jobs

Cons:
1. Too many people!
2. Too much traffic!
3. Smog!
4. Earthquakes!
5. Fires!
6. We dont talk to each other unless we have to. Not me though!
7. Too much competition
8. Lot's of judgemental people
9. Not enough nature
10. Overall, So Cal is just too busy!

id love to live in san fran...in the 60s :) but ive always loved california.

i can see (and smell) the anheuser-busch world headquarters* and brewery from my doorstep. i can hear the fireworks from busch stadium also. maybe some pics when i get home.

*don't talk to me about AB-inbev. i think it's going to have a negative impact on my city and we have yet to see the real repurcussions of that deal yet.

100s is crazy for Long Island right Emb?

ehh honestly everyone here is flipping a **** about it but its not unusual for a few days in the 100s here... i like it... as long as the ac is on :)

Here's a couple years ago during the winter. Keep in mind I moved from Phoenix Arizona stayed the whole summer in PHX, which gets up past 120F. Don't believe the weather.com people, it gets waaaay over that 122 "high" lol maybe in the shade its 122F lol
Anyways, I went from that, to this in about 5 months.



and then this last winter was worse, our driveway was under about 4 1/2 feet of that white stuff! haha

Hah i acctually went to pheonix arizona, las vegas, and the grand canyan over one summer, not nearly as hot as florida in the summer which i also do, although its about 120 in pheonix theres no humidity, its dry, in florida theres tons. it really wears you out...

and ik bout the snow, im from new york! :)

well, see the funny thing, is that with humidity it cools off later in the day. Phx does NOT get cooler, maybe only a few degrees after about midnight or so haha it is horrible in July when the Monsoon season kicks in because then the humidity jumps up to about 65-85% Depending on how much it rains haha
and then it stays hot lol it's about 110 with 70% humidity sometimes lol it gets horrible

That's just not a true statement. I lived in some pretty hot and humid places over the last 11 years (Knoxville and Charlotte) and in the midst of the summer, it does not at all cool off at night. And Knoxville might be the worst as far as temperature/humidity/air quality in the country, no joke. There is essentially 0 wind, I love and miss Knoxville without question, but I do NOT miss the dog days of summer there, it is brutal.

yeah in florida is like 90 at night.

the nice thing in ny is it gets blistering cold for only a bit and blistering hot for only a bit, but i love how it cools off later in the day, really nice for my bike ride, i love to bike every day and hate waking up at 6 am to do it, so if its a 100+ day i wait until later... in las vegas i tryed biking and it wasnt that bad... till i litterally passed out from exaughtion when i got back.

personally i prefer pheonix to florida. its rediculous in florida in the summer... my glasses fog up from going inside and outside...

haha @btimm I am talking about Omaha. I haven't lived anywhere else that's humid. and people here complain because it gets up to 90(which is warm) but it drops to about 70 later.
However, I wasn't saying that every place drops down to the same temperature. A cool off could be going from 100 to 85. That's more of what I mean by "cooling off" with humidity(breeze definitely helps).
I should have said that before haha
But man, that doesn't sound fun down there bro. I'm just going to say that there are a lot of places that have pretty horrible summers haha

Dude, I hated Phx haha I don't mind the humidity so much as walking out side and having a heat stroke to go get the mail lol It got rediculous there during the summer, if I had to live anywhere for the summer I would not live there, anywhere but Phoenix haha(opinion :P)

I do like the winter there though, absolutely beautiful in the winter, about 50-65 usually and sunny. I loved that about Phoenix. I hated having to come back this year to Omaha though...wooo that was cold. Came back to -25 F and 4 feet of snow, and then it got colder! That was just not fun.

i've lived in st louis all my life, and the humidity here is killer. it hits 85 degrees and i am sweating like a dog. everyone says things like "oh it's not the heat, it's the humidity" and i'm like "shut up, that's just a saying".... BUT.... last august i went to northern sacremento for work. this jobsite was about 100 miles north of sacremento, out in the sticks. it was hitting about 110 degrees out there. didn't sweat an ounce. it felt like NOTHING. i mean yeah it was hot, sure, but man... i honestly preferred that to 90 degrees in STL...

WELL this looks like a place for people to show off where they live and unfortunately for you, i am insanely proud of my neighborhood and love to show it off. where to start? back in the 1800s, antoine soulard settled a piece of land south of downtown st louis...

hah, okay i'll skip that. "soulard" is the neighborhood i live in, just south of downtown st louis. the anheuser-busch brewery is a 10 minute walk south, busch stadium is a 2 minute drive north. i can smell the beer from the brewery and hear the fireworks from the stadium.

i'm doing this little project from work right now so i had to get all of these pictures from google.


on the top is downtown, circled is busch stadium, and there's the arch to the right. on teh bottom of the map "soulard" is circled (i'm sure st louis is like a lot of cities, it's broken into neighborhoods). the cirlce-within-the-circle is the brewery. the hashed out area is illinois. i don't go to illinois. hah!



the anheuser-busch brewery and world headquarters. last i heard, inbev was keeping the brewery as the local HQ. that deal still screwed the city over pretty big. i had friends who moved far, far away because their jobs in st louis were lost when inbev came in and took over.



closeup of the brewery. see those train track looking things? they are pipelines carrying beer at various stages of the brewing process from building to building. they are elevated like 2 stories up in the air. pretty cool!



my neighborhood. yellow on the bottom is pontiac park, this is about where i live (i'm not giving you my exact address, pervs!). circled are bars and restaurants, with the furthest one being a 15 minute walk from my front door. red are great places to drink. blue are great places to drink AND see some amazing guitarists who continually blow my mind and make me feel like crap for not being nearly as good at guitar. the pink are actually **** bars. don't spend a lot of time there. up to the top...



the soulard farmer's market is pretty famous. it's the cornerstone of the neighborhood, and it's a pain my butt when it's open because traffic on my streets is 10x what it normally is. to the right... j. gravity strings! great guitar store in downtown.



just showing off... circled is the old courthouse and park, starred is the home of the best baseball team in the world and also the gateway arch (although i've lived in this city for ~25 years of my life, i've yet to be up in the arch)

and there you have it! the best place to live. beer, baseball, and blues all within walking distance

I was standing on a bridge when i took that. yeah, i would imagine Lonk Island and the Cape are very similar in many ways. You are not far from here by water.

choose the "captain parkers" webcam. if the thing is still turning these days you'll see the lake where i grew up and learned to swim in.
for just plain "cool" choose the "beachcomber" webcam. BTW in the late summer the great white sharks will prob be hunting off the beaches at the beachcomber. We have a large seal population now and the sharks come up here from the florida coast to do some summer picknicing!
