No offense intended here ShredHead, but you keep asking people to do things for you. I'm aware that music is difficult at this time, but the point in music is to LEARN. |

So, the chords you gave are in G. If you wanted to play in A, a capo on the 2nd fret would do it: As a capo will lift the key by a half step. So, 1st fret = G# major, 2nd fret = A major.
Do the rest of the math :) |

what Jazzy said ... *sheesh*
when ya start asking sh!t like that ya should drop the "shred" from yer name and add 'Google' or 'looking for teacher' instead.
don't mean to sound too harsh but ....* |

lol I agree with Jazzy and Carlsnow man. I do ask a lot of questions on here as well, but typically I try to figure it out on my own first. Unless I have no experience with whatever it is I am trying to figure out. |

I don't want to sound mean in doing this but, at the beginning of my junior year(August 2008) I had no idea about what 'music theory' actually was. I have been playing for about 6 years or so now, but only studying theory and applying it for about 1. I taught myself by googling music theory lessons free or something like that and ran with it until I found this site. On here I can get all the great lessons and such to help me further my understanding, I just make some connections to something else and watch it go. I don't have anyone else that I know who actually knows music, and honestly, I don't want to pay someone to teach me, I'm already flat broke as it is, so if I am confused about something utterly and cannot seem to get anything to make a good connection as to how it works, I post a question. If you want to learn it, you will.
Case in point: Take initiative to do something yourself, you'll only learn from your experiences good or bad.
Someone could tell you about a movie, but wouldn't you rather go watch it yourself and figure it out? |

okay take what JustJeff said, its in the key of G right? so the root chord is obviously G. so to move it up to B you would want the root chord to be B, make any sense? |

I don't want you to lose your desire to play just because we're not completely helping you BUT... do you not have any desire to learn the theory instead of just remaining clueless? I've sent you a link already to the lesson which explains it in a jiffy - it's just down to you to work it out from there.
But if you still can't work it out from what I explained to you then, honestly, maybe music isn't for you... If I'm wrong then please prove it! I'd love to have this one kicked back in my face. |

For the most part, your statement, shreadhead96, is true. For most modern metal/rock/pop, the first chord will be the key. However, some more musical songs will not have this be true. |

Just mess around with chord progressions. You can use famous ones (look them up on the internet) or make your own... the key is to write AWAY from your guitar, because if you can review it while writing it, you'll never be satisfied. Plus writing away helps develop your ear. |

My favourite progression at the moment is a slightly altered Flamenco progression in A Phrygian with descending bass... try that if you feel up to it haha. |

thanks Vince,
I keep bookmarking all these good sites. I like the interaction of the site. Makes learning like a game.
Deadman... I've also used justinguitar.com. The guy yaps a lot but the info is good. I learned my 3 string triads off his site. The principles of that lesson gave me better insight into the versatility of moving around the neck for chords as well as notes. |

@raptorclaws
that's great too hear. continue with it learn the 3 string triads up the strings. it will open your playing up unbelievably, you'll start to really "see" the fret bored and how it all relates to one another. soloing will improve, chordal knowledge, you'll start to understand and be able to do chord/melody/bass (like Hendrix for instances among others), poly-chords will show themselves. really it is a great, dare i say "method", to the guitar in standard tuning.
just make sure to know the steps in the triad forms like if it goes 1 to 3 to 5, or 3 to 5 to 1, or 5 to 1 to 3. then the other triads that ain't 3 strings in a row would be next to learn but by that point it shouldn't be that much of a jump |

I have no idea why you would post something like this on a thread that has been dormant for 6 months. |
