The Local Store Sell Ernie Ball Strings And D'Addario Strings.
Also What Gauge Do You Think Is Better?
Or Do You Think I Should Look For A Different Make Somewhere Else?

I use ernie ball regular. Although you may want a slimmer brand of strings.

i usually go with pink slinkys, good sound and they last a long time even if you really beat them up, i do find that they can take a little while (say a week or two) to loose that new string tinniness but your gonna get that from any new strings really.

also be sure that you intonate your guitar if you buy a different gauge than what it was set at before.

the thinner the strings the more youll sound like job for a cowboy and killswitch engage but really thick strings will make you sound like in flames

I'm not sure if there is a lesson on how to do it on this site, but, you can google how to do it. Basically you need a tuner(preferably electronic) and depending on the guitar that you have, if it has a tremolo or a tune-o-matic, you are going to need a small allen wrench or screw driver.

no, you never want to buy the cheapest strings. Come on, that's like putting retreads on porsche! strings are a major part of the guitars tone and feel, so, don't cheat yourself on the price. If you like a set that is say $6, but you just want to save a couple bucks and get the ones that are $3...well, your going to actually restrict your guitars tonal capabilities.

or you could get the cheapest and have money for food in a couple of months

Roto sound are good alternative to erine balls or D'Addario they sound nice and you get a spare high E,but I have to admit ernie ball super slinky 9-42 are mave fav for my 6 stirng and Ernie ball again 10 to 56 on my VII string

ive never used ernie balls

strings, in Europe during common practice,(other places and times probably too but i know for a fact here) for Guitar like instruments (really "lute like" seeing a guitar is a type of lute) where made out of Catgut, and unlike the name may suggest do not come from cats. Catgut is a part of the intestine found in all animals humans, pigs, cows, and yes even cats, but people got it from other animals like goats and cows never cats.
however as strings they where the best people could get at the time. now we have nylon and other materials that are a million times better so catgut is mainly only use in old 1700s lutes when people want to be more authentic to the era or even guitars when people want that authentic snobbery. I think that's stupid thought, because compared to nylon(so i have read) catgut has tuning issues, is not even meaning these bumps and thinned out parts(more then nylon), and it isn't as loud nor as crisp sounding.

as to strings being made out of metal. string have always been warped in metal for tuning/intonation reason(wont go into), but the core is still nylon so technically it is nylon not metal but it does still have metal on it so you both win in a way

get ernie balls skinny top heavy bottem if you like to chugg but still be able to solo

someone recommended the pink slinky's too me and i like them it's just that their to thin. i will probably get something heavier soon

I tried some EB Slinky's in the past and I didn't care for them. I use D'addario 10's now and they seem to last a long time. I was using 9s, and now I'm thinking of making a hybrid set of 11s for E A D and 10s for G B E. I bought them, but haven't tried them yet.

Oh. Forgot to mention. Make sure they are nickel strings. Elixir strings are steel. I used to use them and my 2004 American Strat has the proof of me using them (frets were starting to wear). Most guitars have nickel frets (some have stainless). if your string metal is harder then your fret metal guess which one will wear down faster? If I ever get around to building a guitar I will be using stainless steel frets. Although, Stainless frets will wear down the strings faster. I would rather change strings as opposed to getting a fret job/new frets.

also(jsut because the topic was brought back) I absolutely love the Dean Markely Blue Steel 9's and 10's. Though I'm thinking about changing to 10's for my Ibanez just because of the floyd rose(may help counter the tone killing). Anyways, great strings, and they last a long long time, plus the harmonic overtones are killer!

If you can't afford $6 for a set of strings, then maybe you should sell your guitar for food.
