Apparently Ozzy parted ways with Zakk Wylde to pursue a new guitarist. I checked out Twitter earlier today and Zakk said he hadn't heard about it and said "Until I talk to the Boss, I don't know". Personally I'm kind of shocked. I thought they were pretty tight. The story is on Ultimate-Guitar if you think I'm BS-ing.

not overrated, just too mechanical. Great speed, quickness, pinch harmonics, but when he plays it seems that a machine could do the same, like he has no soul!

REALLY? i think its the exact opposite. he has soul, but his speed and quickness is sloppy and not accurate. and pinch harmonics and effects ruins everything.

look, In my honest opinon, Zakk has some amazing talent. He manages to claim the title for most overused pinch harmonics in the last 40 years, yes, but it doesn't mean that they aren't textbook perfect. and I don't think that Zakk, as a player is sloppy, he is very fast, showing his prowess of the fretboard like a master(Though not nearly as fascinating as Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen) he has the quickness to hit notes in extremely accurate succession. It doesn't matter what me, or anybody else thinks, he is one hell of a guitar player, you can't take him down from that.

Zakk is the whole reason I picked up guitar. I heard one of his pieces and it just set me into a frenzy. If you've never listened to Time after Time by Ozzy, do so now. It's one of the few solo's I get chills down my spine. Before you guys get to into bashing him, take time to listen to his solo album Book of Shadows. That's part of Zakk most of you probably didn't know existed. He's got the soul. When he plays "metal" he starts losing the soul and what sounds cool, and alot of times his outlet is wah and pinch harmonics.
I feel he could expand as a musician by breaking away from penatonics and the dorian mode. Either way, he's the sole reason I started, and he holds a special place in my heart regardless if he makes a song
of all pinch harmonics at various positions of the neck.

I agree with EMB, very different Zakk's, I thought we were talking about the Zakk of the 2000's.

I have the entire video and "As Dead As Yesterday" is at the very end, I like him from his early days, and in that vid he seems was cool and is actually a decent teacher. Young Zakk seems like a really cool dude.

@Keithmark13

Zakk is an awesome player, just with his metal stuff, I don't get the same feel from it as I would when he plays things like "As Dead As Yesterday", when he really shows his true colors.
Very well explained about the differences between his musical expression though.

Yeah there's no doubt Zakk has great skills

but there's nothing that makes him special there are tons more like him or better in the technical aspect of music and Case211 said it perfectly it's a bit too mechanical.

It's obvious he tried to fill Randy's shoes which were much to big and its obvious he copied his style(he was a fan)

I've listened to those solos, which are great, you guys pointed out and man let me tell you that is exactly what I'm talking about he's trying to sound too much like Randy.

Zakk's is worse today because of the ridiculous use of pinch harmonics and wah but his style has always been the same.

Sorry to rant but guys like Wylde, Buckethead, Satriani, Petrucci, and the guys from Dragonforce don't convince me one bit they are replaceable.

I love shred but it has to have some soul or else its just another finger hitting a string and another textbook move.

Well even though Zakk is not the most technical guy, his solos matches the the songs he plays he's a great guitarist no matter what anyone say just look and this

and you guys say he has no soul.

Not the people on the forums, the actually news part of the site.

John 5? That'd own dude. I wonder if Zakk will get bigger with BLS or kind of fade out. idk. Although on his Twitter page Zakk said everything was okay with him and Ozzy. Idk. Kind of a cluster*** situation.

There getting on fine, it's just Ozzy feels Zakk is taking over too much (so it's turning into BLS) and wants to try different guitarists and branch out in sound, it's not the first time he's done this since Zakk started playing.

Refreshed I'm guessing. It's been good, but it's been the same sounding stuff for so long, and someone like Ozzy needs new things to keep it alive. I think they should hold auditions personally. 5 is already established, so to have a new, unknown guitarist get a chance would be killer.
