Liking one band doesn't make you a fan of the genre though. I like some meshuggah but i can't stand most extreme metal

BBT, I think Christian metal is metal with lyrics based primarily around Christianity. I am not sure why Christian metal is mocked and ridiculed when black metal and death metal never are ...

My favorite though would be metalcore.

There used to be a few good Christian metal bands but it started to get lame in the mid to late 90's. This was my favorite Christian band Deliverance....
Weapons of Our Warfare 1990.

Doom (Black Sabbath and the Sword are the only doom bands I like)
Progressive
Stoner
Folk (only some)
Funk
Avantgarde (only some)
Groove

I like the more classic sounding metal/rock. The genres that don't use loads of distortion and screamo singers.

No I totally know that there are christian metal bands. But just the fact that they are christians means that they need a whole genre to themselves? like they can't play black metal if their christians or something

ughhhhhh

for whatever reason I can't seem to get my point across..

Let me try again. Why does it matter what their faith is? We don't have "Athiest metal" or "Buddhist metal" so why do we need to "Christian Metal"?

stoner doom is repetitive but fun to listen to under the right circumstances. my favorite would have to be prog metal and any mix of prog something metal like progressive folk metal or progressive death metal. power metal and NWOBHM are also good.

@BBT Their faith really has no bearing on how the music sounds is what your getting at right?

I mean it's not like they do metal renditions of psalms is it.

(note to self, metal up some psalms.)

It could work as metal as well

just look at psalm 139:9 "Blessed shall he be who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rock"

Although I have to make it clear I think there are far too many metal subgenres I'm sure plenty of it could easily be classed as alternative instead of whatever it's put under

I get what you are trying to say - that your personal beliefs shouldn't dictate your genre. However, the vast majority of lyrics from metal bands are far from being something that a person who would want to listen to Christian metal would want to hear. If you differentiate between various forms of metal based on musical styles, why is it a bad thing to differentiate based on lyrical content?

fwiw, I am not trying to be combative, just trying to show a counter point.

"Buddhist metal": That needs to be explored! and until that and Food Metal are recognized i have to go with Viking Metal or the equivalent "druid Metal" or Hobbit Metal cause i grew up listening to Led Zeppelin.
