The Phip Interview

How long have you worked at your current profession?

36 Years in June. Television repair. My dad opened this shop in 1965. When he got ill in 1985 I took over. Things have changed quite a bit since I started! I remember changing vacuum tubes in TV's when I was a rookie and now I'm troubleshooting LED 3D thin panel TV's. It is a constant learning experience. I fix them in the shop or go to people's homes. It's been a good ride but unfortunately with cheaper sets every year the end is near. What I'd like to do next is open a nude mini golf! LOL Something different for a change.

When you were a little kid what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was a very little kid I wanted to be a dog. yup
After I turned 11 I wanted to be the Beatles (all four of them)
I didn't actually have those kinds of dreams. Truth be told all I ever really wanted was to be happy. Never thought about being a fireman or a cop or astronaut. As it turns out I did manage to realize my dream of becoming a dog!

Born in Attleboro, Ma
Been living here (Cape Cod) since '65. So this is my home.
Google it......it doesn't suck ;)
Went to High School here and was your typical beach boy. Good times!
It's a tourist area so summers are fun. Lot's of beaches and fishing and in the last few years a population of great white sharks is hanging around. When the seals came back the sharks followed. Lot's of artists come here. It's a unique place. In the summer I try to spend most of my spare time hiking, biking and boating.

hahaha Wow. I went to electronics school in Providence and stayed with relatives in Seekonk. Cut right through Pawtucket every morning on my way to 95! I think I used to run up Central ave. to Benefit st.
Used to like to run over to Capron Park some afternoons to hang out with the buffalo! hahahahahahaha
Got kinda bored living with a minister and his wife (but it was cheap).
Had a buddy who used to like to hang at the lincoln lodge somewhere around there.

YESSSS back from a hiatus from this site i come back to this... I win. You all will bow down to my original phipness! hah! :)

Ok i have a question yes... About a month and a half ago i came home to discover my guitar had been slightly moved out of position... And i turned to notice that my amp was on standby mode, and my mic had been placed stratigically on a teddy bear in front of my amp as to mic it... Furthermore after scanning the area i saw a big "S" on the wall then after i saw "Phip" almost as to write "Steve" Then to write "Phip"....

What do you have to say about that? 0.o Hmm??

On the serious part, imn curious, your a 60s man obviously, (if this hasnt been asked yet... If it has ignore me) What was your most memorable/favorite concert. And furthermore, whats one of your favorite artists/most influencial artists...

Also... Did you go to woodstock?

Ok well I did answer some of this before. (you should read the whole interview Elliott, it's spellbinding! ROFLMAO. I'm a fascinating guy dammitt! Plus it's a great sleep aide for those of you with insomnia)

Most memorable concert? No doubt Led Zeppelin at Boston Garden. (cheap seats) followed by Southside Johnny (front row) Who's he? Google it.

Beatles...ya missed that one.

Woodstock? nope, came close though!

My gosh that must have been epic.

What was the first guitar you had?

Well I'm not sure I'm ashamed of liking an artist but there are some I don't play when friends are around simply because I have to put up with all the ribbing. Let's see.......the list is so long...........
Dean Martin...........OH SHUT UP! He's good, really.



Well I've only been playing for three+ years so I still have it. I keep it at my shop so I can play when I'm caught up on my work. It's a cheap Samick acoustic. But man, it can take a beating and it hasn't warped or given me a day's trouble. Just doesn't have the resonance of the Martin, but I'd buy another one if Elliott steals this one. LOL
For some reason I bought an EPI electric later from Musicians Friend. One of those package deals for short money. One of these days I'll find a young kid who's learning and I'll give it to her. I have no use for the thing but I can't bear to toss it. A friend gave me a 12 string Hoffner that needs the tuning mech but I haven't found exact replacements for it and I don't want to alter it in case the dude wants it back someday. It's a project on hold.
For my computer interface I have an alesis mixer, a sure SM58, a Cad GXL3000, two small Berringer mics and an assortment of mic stands. I just set up a new ASUS win7 computer for MUSIC ONLY. It is my "studio computer". NO internet, no photos, just music production. period. I'm quite happy about that purchase.

hahahaahahahaha you could say that. you should have been in the car on the way to and from that concert. It was like a scene out of a cheech and chong movie or better yet Spicoli getting out of that van in "Fast Times"

hahaha you know BB I originally typed "him" and then I thought "what a sexist attitude" so I changed it. I'd like to see more girls join the forum. I think it's good for the dialog. I do think, however, that lots of girls play guitar, maybe as many as boys but they don't seem to join forums like this and I suspect I know why. Anyway, my choice of gender stands! ;)

But the human said, "Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?"

"Okay," said God "You asked for it."

So that is why for our first twenty years, we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years, we slave in the sun to support our family.. For the next ten years, we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years, we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

Life has now been explained to you.

What was your first job?

First job. Paper route. Then stock boy at a department store. My first "real" after school job was selling shoes in a little shoe store nearby. Always remember this, women love shoes. It was a great first job! ;)

Whats your favorite decade? 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, now?

Yeah, this was a great idea for sure, I am enjoying the Q&A with the Phipster and think this will be a cool way to get to know all the members of the site.

60's I think. Some of the 70's too. This decade is off to a bad start for me. I have hopes though!

I think the idea here is to interview a different member each week. So far I'm having fun with this.
I'd like to see everyone get a chance to tell their story if they are willing.
