lol schecler. its schecter. umm back in the 6os and 50s gibson, but now, prs, schecter, but if you want quality as in best wood and stuff you gotta go to a small private guy. |

you can try to convince youself otherwise because you want to save money, but gibson does have the best craftmanship, detail, and quality. the sound might not be what your looking for though. |

not true, you gotta say, how could a major multi nation company be better then a handcrafted guirar by a private professional. if i was to buy a relly expensive guitar itd be a handcrafted guitar by a skilled private guy, i can control everything, design, model, wood type, quality, with gibson you dont have too much of a choice unless u fork over huge huge huge amounts for them to custom make you a guitar. |

Why Yamaha? If you are talking about best quality for the price, and especially with acoustic guitars, Yamaha is an excellent choice. They make damn fine acoustic guitars for not a lot of money. Of course, they're no Martin or Taylor, but they're not $1000 either.
Just because they make motorcycles doesn't mean they're not good at instruments.
And this whole topic is essentially based on the price range we are talking about. I would take a $100 Yamaha electric guitar (like a Pacifica) over a Gibson/Epiphone or a Fender/Squier electric (like a Les Paul Jr. or a Bullet Strat), but if I had $1000, I would definitely take the Gibson or Fender. |

I've allwasy thought Schecter were very nice looking guitars but they looked very "metal". I know your into metal so how would you say the fare for blues or classic rock?

there ok. i mean were talking quality, schecters are pretty well made. err, yeh id say ther pretty metal.
the poll is best quality, not best price. if it was the sure epiphones and yamahas and some others are the best but for overall quality...no. |

I'm not going to poll it because it's not that well known a brand, but if you're talking low-end value for money (under 500 pounds)I feel the G&L Tribute range would be hard to beat. My ASAT is really well made with a swamp ash body, rock maple neck and the thickest piece of rosewood I've seen on any fretboard. the notes are accurate and buzz free anywhere on the neck (which incidently is so fast it would keep Malmsteen happy!). The machine heads seem to hold the strings in tune no matter how much bending you do, and the G&L made single coil pickups are the quietist and most feedback free I've ever known. Well worth a mention! |

Wasn't G&L created by Leo Fender? I would really like to play one, but I'm not sure where they sell them near me. I have heard nothing but good things about them though, especially that they are better than Fenders of the same price (since they don't have the whole prestigious brand name thing). |

Haha Cardboard guitars
Anyways what happened to Skold?
Its atough one between Fender and Epiphone for entry level guitars although Ibanez has some inexpensive but highly reliable guitars but I never did like their tone.
Theres no way Gibson is No 1. Most of their guitars are ridiculously overpriced. A good Gibson is a damn good guitar but be prepared to sell your car. |

dam gibsons...theyre made in a factory just like the rest of them. if i was looking for quality id do what EMB said, get it hand made and control what goes on it and in it from the start. a very high quality make is also simon patrick. all of their guitars are hand made, and they just play like a dream. i dont think ive ever player a better acoustic guitar! |

Yes, G&L was the very last project that Leo Fender & George Fullerton worked on together before Leo died. Because he sold his right to his own name to CBS back in the '70's, he renamed the Telecaster the 'ASAT' and the Stratacaster the 'Legacy'. Both are (in my opinion)much better guitars both in design and build quality as all the mistakes made under the 'Fender' name were eliminated.
The 'Tribute'(low-end) range are built to a really high standard in a Korean factory, but then they're shipped to G&L in the states to be inspected for quality before being given the G&L name.
As for finding one to try out, I hope it's not as difficult for you as it was for me. A friend of mine bought one. I fell in love with it as soon as I played it, but the nearest place I could travel to to buy one was a small dealership in Brighton, nearly 300 miles away! That was a drive and a half, but it was worth it! |

i voted down to opinion. you can't really say who makes the best
quality guitar. you can't even put import and US built in
the same poll, just two different classes of instrument.
when one mentions quality it comes down to who uses the best wood
and electronics made available to them. if you were to dig around
through all the custom shop models each vendor has built you will
see impeccable quality throughout all of them. merely being specific
to just one manufacturer is just being on their bandwagon because
everyone else says so.

Here's a couple more:-
Note on the back view, the neck is left unvarnished so that a 'sticky'
hand can't slow you down.
All of these pictures were taken by the fella I bought it off in Brighton. I've got a few of my own kicking about somewhere. No doubt I'll find them when I no longer need them! |

although i hate the telecaster shape, that ones actually quite nice. i can definately see that is a good quality guitar.
Ibanez make great quality guitars too :) plus their cheaper range are pretty amazing. i was playing a £250 one the other day and it played like a dream. it also had one of the fastest necks ive ever played on aswell. the guitar itself was tidy and just a lovely crisp guitar. may have to just buy one, it was that good. it was one of these:
i think the only critisism i would have about is ibanez is for them to name their guitars properly, not just a couple of letters followed by a few numbers

Yes it plays really well. I may upgrade to a G&L S500 (souped up strat)one day, but if I did it would only be for the whammy.

Definately Gibson. But I guess it can be just down to opinion. But where's the make Martin on there? That was a pretty good one too...well, I'm mainly saying that because Johnny Cash had one! But they are good. |
