Is Early Pink Floyd the epitome of Psychedelic music? The only band that i can think of being arguable with Pink Floyd is The Doors. I feel many bands can be Psychedelic, but at what point does it become random noise? People on lsd and not can understand The Doors, or early Pink Floyd.
Check out stuff like this for reference to early pink floyd... Im saying post Syd, Pre Dark Side (not that i dont like syd or dark side i do, i just think they lean, syd leans toward out there, and dark side leans towardas less psychedelic. then again atom heart mother is pretty far out)
Anyway i mean mostly meddle, ummagumma, etc etc etc.
im not posting the video embedds here, its just too big...
anyway, thats just a taste, the 2nd link ihighly recommend, porbably one of my favorite pieces.
Anyway, im kind of a doors virgin to be honest. And on that note would like people to post bands/embed videos of songs they think are trippy as hell/Psychedelic. (again i mean less psycadelic then like Syd or interstellular... but more then Dark side i guess... I like rhythm and not just randomness...) Anyway post away.
Bonus points to whoever shows me my new favorite song/a really fking awesome song. (hey, maybe youll get something in your stocking from EMB... who knows...) anyway...

It's funny how I came upon this post while I was listening to Break on Through. I completely agree with you on how some Psychedelic music can be just monotonous noise. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vidda is good for about the first 3 min. Cream was a good Psychedelic band. Blue Cheer was also a good one. It's hard to think of some other good psychedelic rock.
Donovan is one of my favorites. The Byrds, Spirit, Quicksilver Messenger Service and of course The Greatful Dead all stand out in my mind. Almost every band in the late 60's early 70s got into the scene and had at least a physhedelic hit. Hendrix with Third Stone from the sun.
Starfleet to scoutship, please give your position, Over.
I'm in orbit around the third planet from the star called
the sun. Over.
You mean its the earth? Over.
Positive. It is known to have some form of intelligent
species. Over.
I think we should take a look.
Strange beautiful grass of green,
With your majestic silver seas
Your mysterious mountains I wish to see closer
May I land my kinky machine
Strange beautiful grass of green,
With your majestic silver seas
Your mysterious mountains I wish to see closer
May I land my kinky machine
Although your world wonders me,
With your majestic and superior cackling hen
Your people I do not understand,
So to you I shall put an end
And you'll
Never hear
Surf music again

@colman: Thanks for the links i really dig it very far out there while still being understandable. love it.
you sir just earned yourself karma hah
yeah Saucerful of Secrets is acctually a 20 minute suite, however if your not tripping the first like 10-15 minutes is just noise. But the last is bliss. If you listen to the whole thing in one sitting its a trip...
Check out

Im very much in same lines with Alex, for me Ozric Tentacles represent very psychedelic music and Im a huge fan :D...anyway... Ofcourse The Doors, Pink Floyd and Grateful dead are psychedelic music... but... whiskey bar?, later Pink Floyd?... some of their music are far from psychedelic... What comes to random noises and monotonous stuff...well... it depends point of view...

gotta love blue cheer, and their crazy ass drummer. Heavy metal roots right there. I dig blue cheer but never my favorite... totally psychadelic, but not trippy, but nonetheless fking awesome
You know The Beatles started messing with LSD and the whole psychedelic thing when Pick Floyd started. Nothing as dramatic as Floyd that's for sure. But Revolver (more maybe even Rubber Soul) is a fighting argument of what psychedelic started to take foot. Than Theirs Pet Sounds by the The Beach Boys (also know as the 2nd greatest album, only to Revolver, As far as rolling stones is considered), when I heard that album something was going in my head. The album predates Revolver, and I fine in saying that this was leap for physicality music and where I like to take a basses on.
I think Pink Floyd is the epitome of that kind of music, But with out some of the sound of early psychedelic music i don't think things would be they way they are.
Lisen to this and think about who it sounds like, and think this was before The Wall or Dark Side of the Moon and even The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.
