You got me there. A little history lesson...
1926 - Detroit Cougars
1927 - First Stanley Cup - Ottawa Senators win
1930 - Detroit Cougars become Detroit Falcons
1930 - Pittsburgh Pirates become Philadelphia Quakers
1932 - Detroit Falcons become Detroit Red Wings
1936 - Philadelphia Quakers are no longer a team
1967 - Philadelphia Flyers
Red Wings got Flyers 11 - 2 in total Stanley Cup victories
Red Wings got Flyers 4 - 2 in Stanley Cup victories
after Flyers inception (In other words, Red Wings won 7 of their cups before the Flyers were even a team)
Flyer got Red Wings 8 - 6 in conference championships
Red Wings got Flyers 18 - 15 in division championships
Red Wings won first cup fours years after inception
Flyers won first cup seven years after inception
Detroit and Philly play two different games, Detroit prefers finesse while Philly prefers grinding. Scoring goals, i.e. Detroit, wins games... Beating up the other team, however, does not. Hehe, Just a joke! The Flyers .576 winning percentage is the second best all time in the NHL. The Flyers also have the longest winning streak (35 wins) in not only NHL history but North American Sports history.
In my defense, the Detroit Red Wings have 35 years on the Philadelphia Flyers and neither team won a Stanley Cup before they became the teams we know today. Flyers missed the first cup by 40 years. The Red Wings... only 5.
Just some cool holiday trivia.
I am grateful for hockey, the greatest sport on the planet.
Rock on!
