gx's post had me thinking about a thread that might be kinda cool. How about people post some really good bands local to their country, which would give the forum members some exposure to some bands they may have never heard of before! I talk a lot of poker strategy with people from all over the world, that community can get pretty tight, just like this, and one friend of mine who is from Scotland told me about a band called Biffy Clyro. Had I never talked to him, I may have never heard of that band and they are pretty immense imo. This could be a great way to expose people to some music they normally would not have ever known about.

Here is the catch though. Try not to list bands that are mainstream worldwide. I know Biffy has toured in the US, but they would be a good example of a band who hasn't truly received worldwide recognition. No bands like Muse or Tool or anything like that.

Another good example would be the group Airborne. Someone mentioned them here before, they are from Australia I believe. Had I not seen that thread, no way I would have ever heard of them. They aren't my cup of tea, so to speak, but that would be a good example of a band that would get some good exposure to the AGC community.

Megadeth ;D (Explanation not needed hehe)
Here's some bands that have come to be pretty famous and are from a city that I have lived in for a while...

311-(Omaha, NE;went to same high school)
Authority Zero-(Local boys out of Mesa, AZ, also one of my fav. ska punk bands)
Chronic Future-(Again locals dudes from Mesa area, pretty good sound to them)
Jimmy Eat World-(My cousin's dad was the boss of the drummer when they cut their first demo, how cool is that! also Mesa area again)

@BBT
It's okay man... it's not your fault that they are from Canada...:P haha

Wow, I really like that thread!

Seether has got some quite good songs! "The gift" is not bad.
Airbourne is definitely a great band! - Arcade Fire also - I like "wake up" by them.

But well, I am from Germany and I have to say, the international popularity of a band also depends on what language they sing. We have really big bands in Germany but they will just stay famous within our country. One Band which has reached some international fame even with just singing in Germany is a band called "Die Toten Hosen" literally translated it means "The dead Trousers". But they are really big here:

and this one:

Check them out! I think its worth it.

But that's the point Admiral! List those bands that won't get global recognition, so we can listen to them!

Haha, OOMPH, i forgot about them. I don't listen to a lot of OOMPH! But i think they are quite big in America!
I think Rammstein is just known anywhere! Even though they arent the most famous german band anymore! They got overtaken by..yes.."Tokio Hotel" ^^ sad, i know. (In terms of records sold I think)
But Rammstein is awesome, I've seen them live and they are literally mad. And If I say mad, I mean mad. Haha

The Airborne Toxic Event is from my old neighborhood.

This band is from my current neighborhood: Still Flyin'.

They both play unabashedly poppy tunes.

ABBA and Yngwie Malmsteen!!! Just kidding, heheh...

This band is HUGE here right now, it's a rock/pop-ish song:

This one's not "huge", but maybe it's more "original".. the genre would be fusion/jazz/something...

These are some good posts guys, keep em coming! case, I never heard of Authority Zero, but have every album Less Than Jake made up until In With the Out Crowd. I gave it a listen, but was not enjoying that album. That Authority Zero song is pretty awesome though!

Here is another band from the States - close to where I grew up in Michigan - called "We Came as Romans". Pretty solid imo.

Cool man ;) I have always like Authority Zero since they have a unique sound and even when they got progressively more punk in their sound(Andiamo stuff and later) they still sounded awesome ;)

Plus they're from the same town as me! hahaha

I'm surprised no-ones jumped in with the UK yet, well here goes:

Newton Faulker: Ones of the coolest acoustic guitar players I've heard, second only to the man himself, Tommy Emmanuel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_GOiPAQC6A

Skindred: Technically Welsh but it's within the UK so it's all good. Awesome take on combining reggae and metal.

Feeder: Have been around for a while so I expect many of you to know them anyway. Definatly have been consitently amazing with their writing too.

Dude! Skindred is awesome. Thanks to a video game I used to have a few years ago I was listening to them going "WTF?!"
It's like Bob Marley sang while Metallica played the riffs haha xD

This is a band from my old hometown in Louisiana. The bass player is from the metal band I used to be in..back in the stoned ages.
