he doesnt have an ounce of emotion in his music.
And yes, I agree, you can have all the technical skill in the world and not be able to write a nice melody. And that has never been more apparent with this guy.

I personally don't like MAB because (he is probably one of the most technically gifted guitarists in the world) but he doesn't seem to play a melody or have passion in his playing. It is really cool to watch for the "wow" factor, but really isn't fun to listen to...

he acts like a tool but thats not why i dont like him as a player... He isnt interesting to me... The shred and technique and melodies are there just not interesting to me... IMO
He is one of my biggest influences,he is a shred god,and he can writte awesome music,BUT everyone knows MAB because he can shred like a machine and has this double/quadnguitar ambidexterity shredness stuff,he has created his own music and thats a fact,no one sounds like him, its like buckethead wit his..bucket..MAB has tons of feeling,he just expresses it in a different way
anyone who says buckethead just shreds with no feeling (im not saying thats what you said) needs to watch this

I am yet to see a MAB video where he has more feeling than the Jonas Brothers. but thats my opinion
i will say this --- in the year 2006 it was obvious that people were creating "youtube" style videos which were obviously doctored in some way. in the year 2010 i am a cynical, skeptical SOB.
i actually watched most of that video. i realize that this video is probably a little old (10+ years?), but that part when he swaps from "underhand" to "overhand" of the neck?
maybe i'm just being skeptical, but no effing way. has to be sped up. my bull shiz detector is screaming when i saw that.

The problem with guitar music(like Vai, Satch, MAB, etc.) is that they won't ever be as popular as the Ozzy's or Zep's because you have to be into guitar to be able to appreciate it. There are always exceptions to the rule, but more people will know who Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath are than Rusty Cooley or Paul Gilbert.
BUT It doesn't mean that someone could get a huge hit with an instrumental song (Kenny G did it in 1980s).
But I do like MAB, I think he seems like a pretty genuine guy that would be cool to even just hang out with.

Completely disagree here. I first got into Vai when Fire Garden came out and I played drums, I didn't care at all about playing or learning the guitar at that point in my life, drums were too much fun! So you definitely don't have to be into guitar to enjoy instrumentals, you just have to be into MUSIC.
