Nice melodies man, but if you allow me throw some critics (I was on that mood today XD) I think you have same thing than me that you little hurry when you play, for me it sounds that you play a little ahead of rhythm on some parts.

Other thing is again same than me, that when you improvise (which I think you did in this solo) you lost consentration time to time and you dont keep it clear or lucid (damn, I dont find right adjective)
Maybe you wish to try to "write the solo"

But other than that, I liked a style, I liked the melodies on those part you was on the trail. Keep it up, its very promising tune.

Okay Casey, here’s that honest, open, and (hopefully)constructive critique ya asked for ;~)

1st- The canned drums are obvious, a lil tweak-age and such could make them feel less robotic and sound warmer. I have that same gripe re: the rest BUT yer not trying to be ‘Mr. Studio Guy’ here, I know… so lets get to that there gee-Tar and such.

Something about canned drums(etc) that you may find useful is PRE-ROLL  Not as in “I think I need 10 to 30 seconds pre-roll before I play” but more “these are canned – I have all the time in the world to warm and synch to them”. Dig?

Tip 1 =
Let the drums roll and play along as you would (noticing your ‘better’ play at songs end brought this to mind) if you were planning on ‘printing’ the whole affair—get a feel for the timing and rhythm(s) this way while recording once you feel all comfy and find that sweet-spot yer listening for there will be no need to mark it, simple acknowledge that “yeah this feels good” give a quick pause (to let FX die-out) and let it rip! Then you can go back and kill the “pre-roll” you used as an aide, whilst leaving the track you were shooting for intact … a simple case of making a little edit go a long way.

Tip 2 =
It sounds like you are running DI to your control surface... Are you? If so, stop that nonsense and Mic yer amp (if possible) it makes a HUGE difference and will help train your (recording) ear.

Tip 3 =
I have no great love for ‘written’ solo’s or following modal “instructions” and honestly it doesn’t sound like you do either, which I enjoyed a LOT. The advice here would be to go with your gut and trust yourself more, as you sound tentative at times.

Tip 4 =
Timing Timing Timing (‘Nuff said)

All in all I see you improving with each offering; this being the biggest improvement yet.
I DIG that Ventures type guitar sound (if that’s what you intended) many of the runs you play, and much of the exploration I hear! … KUDOs Suh!

All in all I hear a nice sense of exploration and discovery here from a young guitarist unhindered by the need for praise and/or adulation; seems you are carving your own course in this sonic wonderland of ours, and that alone makes me smile.

Keep on doing what yer doing, trust yourself, and RAWK! us all with ‘The Next One’ !

I don't really have any tips to offer you, as I am still so green, but I do think I have a taste for quality and some general music thoughts. The two things that stood out to me were as follows:

1) Carl already nailed this one, but it did kinda seem like you were tentative at points in the song, and I think that is just a confidence issue. You play well, so just be more confident in your abilities and I think that will go away.

2) I played percussion from 5th-12th grade. Although it had less to do with my section and more to do with the band as a whole, one thing my director really drove home was volume and how it transitions. Basically he really like the use of crescendos and decrescendos in a subtle manner for various lines. Kinda like driving the line to a peak would call for a subtle crescendo and the opposite would hold true as well for valleys. Being new to the guitar, I am not sure how easy or difficult it is to do with this praticular instrument, but I really think that the use of crescendos and decrescendos really add fluidity to music and give it some life. Maybe experiment a bit with that?

Some things I really liked:

1) Space. Oh man, I love space. I think it is truly underappreciated by most people, but I think space is what gives a lead or solo its artistic value. Shredding has it place sure, but I don't personally (obviously opinion, not fact, lol) find it has nearly as much emotion (think Slash in "November Rain").

2) I really enjoyed how you used the whole range of the guitar. It added to the song imo.

Again, I am really new to this, so take my opinion for what its worth, which probably isn't very much. :-D
