Make sure you read each catagory before you vote!

There are obviously going to be more right-handed people than left-handed, but it'll be interesting to see what ratio of left-handed people play a left-handed guitar, a restrung right-handed guitar, or a "normal" right-handed guitar.

I've put in the same combinations for right-handed people to keep things balanced, although I'm not expecting many right-handed people to play left-handedly!

I'm left-handed but I pick with my right hand.

I'm left handed when writing, but I always thought you'd do chords with your writing hand anyway because it's stronger and you need to focus on chords more, so if you mean struming and picking then yeah I use my right. I always call the usual strung ones left for the chords, that's how I thought it went but other people disagree.

i still don't see what the big deal is. just buy a right handed one and restring it's really not that hard. besides in some cases the nut of course. is it just laziness?? oo and do what feels right to you don't force it unless your trying to be ambidextrous.

My brother is left handed and plays right handed. Intrestingly enough he is able to finger pick much better than I can.

I'm left handed. I've never understood why a guitar is left or right handed. No one ever showed me how to play and I found it natural to pick up the guitar as if I was right handed.

I've assumed over the years that lefties are 'expected' to play the opposite of righties and that's why there are left hand guitars. Once we begin using a guitar position it's exremely difficult to switch. If lefties all started with 'right hand' guitars they would have no more trouble learning than if they had started with a 'left hand' guitars.

I actually think the hands are reversed if anything. When I first started playing it was easier to strum than to finger a chord. It wouldn't surprise me if you put a dozen right handed 10 year olds in a room with a dozen left handed guitar and a dozen right handed guitars that they would just as likely pick up the opposite hand guitar....especially if they had to learn to finger a few chords.

@ raptorclaws
Its usually easier to strum with your more coordinated hand. And your other hand isnt as strong or coordinated, but the fingers are more flexible.

And usually, your writing hand is more coordinated. So... Make sence?

And if you were to pick up a guitar left-handed, its a million times harder to learn right handed. Even if you never touched a guitar before

Domigan: No,it doesn't make sense

"The fingers are more flexible"?

My fingers on my right hand have always been more than strong enough to strum....and the fingerson my left hand more coordinated and 'flexible' to finger chords.

I've met more lefties who play right than play left. It certainly wasn't 'a million times harder' for me or for them. Perhaps you have some medical issue like polio with your right hand.

you should do what feels right. just because your right handed at this doesn't make you left hand at that. I for one am right handed at almost everything, but in hockey I'm left hand. don't know why it just feels right. pick up the guitar and do what feels right don't force your self. Not saying you are raptor, you just stated your like me with hockey sticks but just with guitars, but people feel it needed to be played lefty and there nothing random about it. it also has nothing to do with finger or hand strength, dexterity, or anything else it's about brain recognition which doesn't always fit nicely into what is expected.
