can any1 tell me song good folk artists?

my family friend is into folk, i dont know of any, ill ask him.

Like what sort of folk? The kind with lots of Melodys that makes you feel like it's 1066?

Or the American kind that's just a few chords with someone singing?

Phil orch's is anohter good one, neil young early stuff, and crosby sill nash and young, joan baiz, toni mitchel, lost so early 60's stuff

Jethro Tull is impressive, but I don't know if he falls under folk or classic rock.

I know this is off topic, but one time wayy back Jethro Tull beat Metallica and Motley Crue for best Hard Rock Album at either the VMAs or the Grammys, that was bullshiz he isn't HARD rock OR Metal.

I wouldnt consider Dylan's music Folk music (although many people do) because he did not represent American culture at that time. He sang some protest songs.I mean you could call any kind of music folk but when it goes mainstream it loses that categorization.

As everyone else said, Dylan is a good choice. I also recommend the collaboration album "Raising Sand" by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.

ya Bert is really good much better at folk then those three chords basters (not that i don't like em love Dylan's music). as for that guy i know him TOO he has hair (trying to be funny not negative)

I would say early dylan was folk but most of his stuff after 70 or so is rock. some good disc's of his that are fold are, bob dylan (good folk blues) times they are a changing, john wesly harding, Nashville skyline, gez brain is going blank...there are lots of others. He was very productive druing this time and put albums out real fast.

How has no one mentioned Johnny Cash? I think he's considered folk... Genres can be so vague...

Ah man GRX40... THANK YOU! Barely anyone I know has heard of Týr. They AMAZING. Probably my first favourite band, also the first band I went to see live with Amon Amarth and Wintersun. Good times.

Skold, you wouldn't like Finntorll (Folk Metal). They only go on about killing Christians.

Yeah Trollhammaren is my favourite tune by them.

Týr is what led me into different music (you know, away from the old 90s Britney spears and backstreet boys... the horror!) Although Daft Punk were actually my first favourite.

Yeah, Wintersun were great live, I got hammered with them after the gig. Amon Amarth were there for a while, but left. Týr left right away, I was devastated.

Maybe the traditional 'Cotton-eyed Joe' or look up a few Johnny Cash songs, he done quiet a few folk but he's just more well known for rock and roll and country. But he still did quiet alot of folk, i think just one of them (a major hit, there'll be more about) was 'The one on the right is the one on the left'.

Otherwise I'm sorry I don't know so much folk.

NOOOOO. That Cotton-eyed Joe song is now ingrained into my head. That song played too much when I was a kid.

Have a look at Blackmores night. Not what you'd call 'trad' folk but very challenging for you acoustic guitarists.

Quite a selection on here, I'm going to check some of these out myself, too.

american folk music was great. especially the rebel side of it... guthrie wrote, "this machine kills fascists" on his guitar 50 years before punks thought they were cool with stickers on their guitars.
