So we just got our income tax return and my wife has known for quite some time that I want a bass. She told me the other day that she was thinking of getting me one now as a combo gift (anniversary/birthday/Christmas), so I thought that was pretty awesome. I did some research on costs and other things and learned quickly that I shouldn't run a bass through my guitar amp, as it is likely to just blow my guitar amp.

Okay, so then I thought the best option was to go ahead and get a starter pack, since I just want something to learn on for the time being. Well, the guy at Guitar Center was pretty helpful. He told me that the starter packs actually just have a guitar amp with them and that they are likely to blow. I read that in my research, but didn't know that companies gave guitar amps in bass packs, pretty crappy. He pointed me in the direction of an amp that was on sale that is specifically for a bass. He also pointed me to this Laguna all black bass. He plugged it into the exact amp and played it a bit for me to hear how it sounds and it sounded pretty damned good! He said it was a couple steps better than a starter pack, which made sense to me, knowing how bad starter packs are in quality. Clearly this bass isn't the greatest thing in the world, but at least it stays in tune for longer than 5 minutes, which was how awful my Fender Squier starter pack guitar was and kinda what I expected from a starter pack bass.

Anyways, I walked out the door with a new bass, guitar amp, and cord for abotu $10 more than what I would have paid for a starter pack! The employee was definitely helpful and really seemed interested in not having me throw away my money on a starter pack.

Anyways, here are some pics:

One thing I noticed straight away with bass is how fun it is to finger tap. It's way easier than guitar too, hahaha. I am messing around with some arpeggios on all 4 strings and it sounds sick!

And yes, I had only two hangers before, so when I got the bass I had to buy a third hanger and move them around. I had a chance to putty the holes, but not paint yet, hahaha.

+1 for all the awesome wives on the planet. I can't wait to do my taxes!

Awesome man. My first bass was from a Hartke starter pack. I think bass starter packs have more value. Maybe basses are cheaper to make, but I was impressed with mine. It sounds like you like yours, so that is awesome.

Rock on!

Ive always heard its not good to put a Bass through a guitar amp, but ive done it so much, and even for the School Jazz Band we use a guitar 1/2 stack with the Bass, and have never had any issues.
What is the difference? Besides 12inch speakers vs 10inch speakers
