I really like the tone of between the buried and me on the song Prequel to the sequel. its pretty bada$$

Eddie Van Halen on Fair Warning - Mean Streat and Unchained especially. It's dark, heavy, and crunchy with just the right amounts of distortion, reverb, and delay.

For heavy metal,i lve Chris Impellitteri's tone,and it comes from a fender!

Totally depends on the genre obviously, but I really like the sound of Kirk Windstein for metal.

Slash/Izzy Stradlin's (moreso Slash) tone on Appetite for Destruction.
Slash's clean tone of Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Jerry Cantrell's tone period for the most part.
Jeff Beck's tone (on his new album, and on the live at Ronnie Scott's show) for that really souful bluesy sound.
Tony Iommi's tone on the song Black Sabbath. The guitar on that song scared me more than Ozzy's lyrics as a ten year old.
And Zakk Wylde's tone, especially on the song "Mr. Tinkertrain", purely for balls-out shredacious metal tone.

As far as heavier tones evh tone on panama is my vote but for clean tones I vote Gilmoure.
