I use Minor more. But if i'm using an Em scale I like to mix it up and through in a G sharp or a C sharp. |

I more often than not use Minor-esque keys.
However, I more often than not, use major chords :) |

I was thinking of key signatures. The Major key signature is the same as it's relative minor. C & Am = no sharps or flats. |

When you say a song is in the key of B minor its actaully in D. Just starting on the 6th. But then could you start on the 2nd of a key for example the key of D and say your playing in the key of E minor? Or is saying your playing in the key of E minor mean automatically that your in the key of G? |

Yes but all your chords are the exact same as if you were in D. But i just asked a friend and he said you can call a key the key of E dorian if your starting on the 2nd of the koey of D. |

That's why I say scales or chords. The method you guys are talking about only works if you are using diatonic scales/modes. I have played plenty of songs where the progression goes outside the diatonics. nullnaught says: But i just asked a friend and he said you can call a key the key of E dorianif your starting on the 2nd of the koey of D.
I don't think there is a KEY of E Dorian. That would be for scales/modes. The key is the signature of the song. To say a song is in the key of E Dorian is saying Dorian is the only mode I can use for this song?? |

But are you playing it over a song in the key of E or D? The mode does not determine the key. |

ahh good point mosh.so basically a key is either maj or min not a modal name dorian etc so if it was i cmaj you could use any of the seven modes in cmaj to solo ove rthe progreesion in cmaj. |
