anyone ever play one of these? they've gotten a lot of great reviews on harmony central, and I'd like a sunburst color with a maple neck for my blues stuff(that strat neck p'up!).

anyways, for $100 it might be fun to work on it and tweak it.

opinions?

honestly in my opinion it is better just to save your money and get one good guitar then a bunch of crappy/mediocre ones.

I most definitely agree with RA.

Agreed.

You'd be better off spending more time on a crap guitar - improving your abilities, than spending money on things which you might in time decide isn't going to be your career's path.

i don't think you guys got what he was asking. he said he wanted to work on it and tweak with it so you wouldn't want to buy a nice really guitar just to accidentally mess it up. but to answer your question, the are actually insane for the price. i one of my friends bought one and i couldn't believe it was so cheap.

nater got what I was asking, I have two guitars that I have setup for my playing style and abilities already, I'd like to explore tweaking guitars to a more in-depth style.
Plus, I've heard that they are actually decent for the price, and I'm not looking to blow money on an expensive strat just yet, since I don't really need one at the moment, I just want something to work on and have fun with, like figure out how to put a floyd rose in(Thank you GFS!) and the different wiring types and what not, without destroying one of my others that I've actually had for a while(5 years, and the other is 5 months).

Go for it. Have fun.

an aside: be sure to check out pawn shops (if any) in your area. A shop I drop by often has a half dozen Fender-like guitars for under $50. My nephew got a Peavy last month that only needed a bit of cosmetic work (stickers pealed off). Used guitars are getting real inexpensive as Chinese imports flood the market so keep your eyes open.

case --- you're young so this might not apply to you... but when you are in the working world $100 isn't a lot of money. i say go for it. my other hobby is photography, and my cheapest lens for my camera is $80, and that's considered a bargain!

look at it this way --- by purchasing a creppy guitar for $100 and learning to work on it... you will gain more than $100's worth of knowledge and experience.

although i am a little upset to hear that they are sold in sunburst?!?!?!? what the heck!!! when i bought my guitar (squier affinity HSS w/ g-dec jr combo) i had the choice of RED or BLUE. after i bought it my dad saw it and was totally jealous, so i went back to the same guitar center and bought him a lefty affinity SSS as a christmas gift and guess what color he got? sunburst. lame!!!!!!

whatever, it's my first guitar. next one will be a sunburst telecatser just gotta get good enough to justify that much money spent on a hobby!!!!

hey man, my squier(which because of a Floyd Rose) is now my main guitar again, but I put a humbucker in it and it is blue, I've always wanted a nice sunburst strat, so for only $100 I'm thinking I'd have a lot of fun with it, like learning how to do certain things properly.

and I'm really looking into getting a string thru body Tele next, but maybe a little bit farther down the road.

So how's photography? I like to take pictures but i can't seem to stay motivated to do it too often

@GX
Is that lens a f/1.8 50mm prime lens by chance? I have one of those too. I'm into photography as well. I have a canon 30D and a 50D. I just bought a big ol' flash and a gary fong lightsphere II and it is friggin' awesome. Are you canon or a nikon? Are you on Flickr?

my little bro has a squire strat and for a beginner I think it is a great guitar. Of course I'm in love with my Les Paul, but to each his own.
