Hey all.
I'm re-stringing my guitar today, and i wondered what you guys used to clean the fret-board. Any tips?

I generally just use a dry or damp sponge and use the rough side to get the grime off, then I wipe it down with the other side or just use a paper towel, hand towel, old t shirt. Then I use a dry tooth brush and individually clean the frets and get as much of the grime out of there as possible. Or you could try some of the cleaning products offered by Ernie Ball I think it is? |

Yeah the backside of a sponge will be your best friend while cleaning the fretboard, but i personally use a fretboard cleaner that my local shop sells to get that extra cleaning power. |

Use a fretboard cleaner,or if you need somethinng more powerfull, use white gasoline,i use it and it gets rid of all living and non living beings on the fretboard, but then it smells funny.. |

I always heard lemon oil or lighter fluid was very good for cleaning away any grime.

I've never used flammable liquids on my guitar. Use lemon oil or guitar cleaner. if your fretboard is that grungy then let it soak for a minute or three and use an old toothbrush to scrub. |

lemon oil ...period.
and for (just thought i'd throw this in) maintenance, 'fastfret' (been a fan since it came out in the ... er 1800's?)
maintenance/performance tip =
after ya clean the plank w/ lemon oil and have played the stings inta tune **try taking a piece (soap bar shape) of the finest grade steel wool and, gently till ya "get it") rub it vigorously, in short movements,
down/up the length of the back of yer guitars neck; you will be amazed at the sudden "fresh and fast feeling" it gives you (also great for sweaty live shows .. wool then towel.
-warning-
**(above)
this WILL knock the 1st micron of finish of a guitar, and if done for years, will make the back-neck varnish go bye-bye.
RAWK!

It really depends on what kind of wood you have... but lemon oil is the hands down best thing to use. I always coat my guitar with lemon oil when I restring. Not just because it looks nice, but your fretboard will dry up if you don't... then you spend $100 on maintenance to get it fixed
Is fastfret really that good? I've been wanting to try it but I don't know if I'd like it or not.
This is for an acoustic by the way, I'd probably buy it for my electric :/ |

I'm not sure about using gas to clean my guitar, hahaha.
Where can i get lemon oil, will it be at a guitar store, or somewhere like a hardware store? |

Guitar stores will carry the stuff that is specialized for the guitar, but really anywhere they sell cleaning supplies for floors and whatnot should have straight lemon oil. |

Lemon oil to get rid of the grime, Lord Sheraton's Pure Beeswax to coat it and make the wood last longer, and fast fret to slide; they're the best choices by far |
