I'm not sure but I think its the flurry of notes and that would be his picking and palm muting style I think this is all in his hands.

If I'm hearing the wrong thing then I may be totally wrong.

nah its not in his fingers because he had this sound only on the '82 tour. its an effect probably from his roland space echo, or maybe a his stereo chorus put only on at that time

Its no effect,His Amps, his picking style, his Chain FX,is what gives him his tone,he often used a Little bit Of Chorus, not too much tho,his amps, the Mods he did on them, the EQ and the attack on the strings is what makes that tone

Yeah I have to agree with Alex. I'ts his picking with a little bit of palm muting.

Again, if I am hearing the wrong sound then I may be totally wrong but I am interested to read what everyone else thinks.

chain fx? he didnt have an fx loop, he only modded the white one, the others, were stock jmps, both handwired and non handwired.

the part at 1:20 though?

if you listen to his early concerts, he does a run like that in his suicide solution solo, and ive never heard that sound till the '82 tour.

the reason i restated 1:20 is because he doesnt palm mute there.

You hit the nail,he is not palm muting, that why it sounds that way,and the FX chain is that place where he connects all his pedals, guitar, then to the pedals, the way the pedals are arranged is the FX Chain, and then to the amp

My guess [which is probably wrong but wtf] is that it IS soundcheck. It IS very loud and those ARE Marshalls. So with his not PMing like Alex said I'm guessing theres a little feedback giving an extra kick of some sort.

yeah, whats strange is his sound through the pa system on the tour is completely diff then the sound in this video. very strange. his sound was very bassy, almost rhythm pickup sounding. this bootleg was not exception but the soundcheck had a diff sound, the only thing the same is that ringing sound. o i thought u ment like a loop to his amp, but yeah he had a huge loop consisting of:

guitar(les paul perferably by randy)->crybaby->mxr distortion + -> 10 band eq (mxr) ->roland volume ->stero chrous (mxr)->stereo flanger}(mxr)-> roland space echo->jmps

i have pics of his pedalboard if anyones interested but i love that sound he gets. thnx guys. just curiously anyone got his sound he gets there. very hard to do so without a vintage tube amp.

Oh I see hahaha definitely no palm muting there I was listening to the part before that.

Yeah that sounds like a loud amp with some fast trilling.

Theres lots of those in this solo starting at 1:04 or better at

Yeah, here the sound is not from the PA,is just the Mic of the camera,on the PA the sound is processed, from the Amp the the mic input and then to the PA,then the tone Changes. What makes that sound is the Picking Dynamics he Used

I think that alexb is on to something. it doesn't seem to like he actually used any other time fx to get that ringing sound, just the way he controls the picking and his fretting hand coordination for that run.

"MXR M-117R Flanger Effects Pedal" is what he uses for most of his sounds, including the "ringing" you're interested in. You have complete control of the filter so you can sculpt the sound you want.

I could be wrong, but it seems like the most likely answer, and he did use that pedal a lot.

really? when did he use that pedal. in mutliple interviews by randy he said, i dont use a lot of effects, and for my solos i dont use any besides my chorus on a few. the only i can hear using his flanger is on the diary album on a few tracks, flying high again you can hear.

ugh. i know what a pinch harmonic is lol. ive been doing them since i was able to walk! lol nah lol. hes not doing a pinch at 1:20. its a chorus effect. i finally almost got it. it has to do with the chorus effect over some reverb, plus his marshalls aare cranked.

no Emb's right at 1:20 it some chorus and reverb, but i think what is putting it over the edge is just some natural echo/reverb. so my next question is seeing that you say this only happened in the 82 tour is this the only video and/or did they use the same prefab stage and set-up each time. but your right with your thinking Emb but i don't think it's "emulateable" do to it being more natural then produce just like your amp sounds a bit different each place you go to and what going on around it.

well, theres after hours, and some ***ty concert videos. however i have litterally 50+ bootlegs of concerts. and listened to him playing his solo in which he plays somthing like that almost exact that. and he doesnt get the sound. in any of the recordings. his sound on this tour and this concert was diff then this tone. his was bassier during the concert rather then this setup. hes getting sometuype of chorus effect with reverb in there outta his space echp, combined with the pa system ther.e
