how should i clean my guitar?

i was wondering what is the safest yet most effective cleaning solution to clean my guitar? ive got a nitrocellulose finish.

I just wipe mine with the kind of cloth that you would wipe glasses or CDs with. It is very smooth and has no tooth to it, so it doesn't scratch the body.

I know they sell special rags and polishes, but I'm using this for now, and it seems to work.

However, I'm not exactly sure what nitrocellulose is, so this might not work for you!

I use dunlop 65. It's a kit that has lemon oil for a rosewood fretboard, a polish and cleaner for the body, back of neck and head, and a string cleaner and conditioner. It will make a guitar shine!

I use dunlop 65 also. I think the kit comes with two cloths.

plain lemon oil is the best to use.

An old white t-shirt. No better cleaning solution.

A cloth and a bottle of water (acoustic)

depends on the guitar. each and every guitar has its own needs and desires. of course most guitars love a lemon oil rinse on their fret board, and polish and filler for the body. If you got an acoustic, check out the type wood and select a cleaning solution based on that. make sure to blow off and dust or use a dust rag before you do any cleaning or you run the risk of scratching your baby.

I got the Dunlop 65 kit, and it really worked well. It was about $20-$25, and it came with a string winder, two cloths, string cleaner, body cleaner and fretboard cleaner (Lemon Oil). The string cleaner makes your strings feel really smooth and gave my acoustic strings a lot more brightness and clarity. The body cleaner did a good job of removing the smudges and finger prints.

I would recommend it. :)

I use Lord Sheraton beeswax Balsam (after I've taken the old strings off and cleaned the crap off of the frets) to protect it. It makes the wood last longer and picks up less crap.

That is good advice from Jazzmav. Unfortunately I had to clean it with the strings on.

I've done that only when I haven't got new strings around, but it's supposed to be bad for the strings, but I've never had any problems with it.

for the freat board I just use water and an old tooth brush (not the same one i brush my teeth with) Then I'll use some lemon oil after the crap is gone.

Using beeswax doesn't it make the whole thing greasy?

Before the guitar is shipped they will polish it and buff it with something like car wax. I was thinking of doing that to one of my junk guitars on the back and see how it turns out.

i use ernie ball fret board condishiner and string cleaner

make sure to clean ur nuts(lol) seriously especially on aa lp, the g string the way it goes through the nut makes it go outta tune a lot.

LOL it sounds funny, but seriously people, clean your nuts! or you might go outta tune. Luckily (or unluckily) I have a locking nut that keeps my strings in tune for about 20 or so whammy dives or a week without any whammy.

how do you whammy dive without a whammy? lol
i use either some good ol wood polish (not cleaner, polish) and a cloth. or the dunlop 65, which i got for christmas...not like id spend that much for cleaning my guitar, lol. i think car polish is a little extreme too. wood polish has the whole get-rid-of-dust thing going on with it so it helps. as for my strings i use FingerEase, which is a lubricant/cleaner/buzz-killer (in a good way). its pretty cheap and goes far...just dont get it near your pickups because it collects dust (theres nowhere for it to soak in there) and its hard to wipe off cuz its under the strings

nitrocellulose finish. that an old school paint that they dont use any more. its the reason stevie ray vaughn's guitar lost its paint. but the purist say that they sound better with that kinda paint.

make sure whatever you use doesnt mess up that paint since its probably more delicate than the newer paint jobs.

it is a newer paint job, thats what gibson puts on most of thier guitars.

oh and i got that dulop 65 kit. it works great.
