I don't know. It really depends on what part of your setup you feel would improve your sound the most. My next big buy will be a Marshall tube amp. I want to be ready to gig when I get good enough to try out for some of the local bands. This is the amp I have had my eyes on MARSHALL AMP but it will probably be 8 or 10 months before I can afford it. No hurry it will be longer than that before I play well enough to gig anyway. |

whoa lots of money. its hard to say. it always goes back to personal preference and what different stuff is worth to ya. you could always put the 3g's in a CD or some other investment and not buy any guitar stuff at all. but that wouldnt be much fun would it lol.
i suggest making a list of what you want and then numbering those things by importance to you. for instance do you want a really expensive guitar but dont really care about amp or vice versus? maybe recording gear is more important to you, and so on the list and relative rank of it all is up to you. i noticed your 13 so i realize you(dont take this as an insult) might not be used to making decisions regarding purchases of this magnitude so think it all through throughly and whatever you do don't let the money burn a hole in your pocket. hell in 3 years when you are 16 you might have wished you kept this money to help buy a car.
in conclusion do ya research and make an informed decision.

I would recomend a couple things, upgrade your guitar but not with a "Gibson" they are overpriced. if your playing an $400 guitar look and getting a $800 or $1000 guitar. play around and find one thats right for you. do the same with your amp. But sometimes a higer end guitar you will find is easer to play, or with an amp sounds more balanced. but paying more for something is not all ways the best choice.
I went to Guitar center the other day looking for a new acoustic, i have this old Sigma that i paid $200 + a banjo for. I wanted something diffrent or nicer. i went into the acoustic room and strumed on the low-med end martins and Alverez's and my Sigma sounds 4 times better than these, so i went into the high dollar room nothing under $1800 nothing but Martin's, Taylors, and Gibsons. again i felt disappointed that my crappy Sigma sounds so much better. I think i'll spend some cash on getting a pickup installed and keep this thing forever.
The moral of the story, don't let your eye's judge your sound thats what the ears are for.

see... thing is...ill know more in dec...more bout guitars, amps, my preferance towards them... im dec id prob be ready for a band, so id want to get better gear. i have been saving it every year...i go to football gaames, and sell parking tix, i park around 15 cars, and i get around $20-$40 a car...im going ther for 3 or 4 games. ive been doing this for 3 or so years. at 17 when i get a car, id want a bmw... my dad's, so thers no worry ther. if i was going to play for a band is what im saying, what gear would i get for 3k. btw, id be lost with a record studio. if the band wanted me 2 get one, then id get one, but other then tht..id think so... also, im not saying id spend all 3k... its a lot of money... i could buy new golf clubs for tht. but if i was, wut gear would u get or recommend?

Well,
you could spend the money on a tutor and get that C+ grade in spelling up to say a B+ !!! LOL just kidding.
This is where we are different, i'd spend the do-ray-me on the recording stuff cause i'm not thinking about getting into a band. I'm more interested in recording and mixing multiple tracks here at home to see if i sound good to myself. i have a few ideas for songs and i'd like to experiment, so i'm on my way to skold's house to steal his workstation cause i just looked up some prices on that stuff and it aint cheap!!! YIKES
You on the other hand can't wait to get out and play live and i completely understand that. So if your guitar is good enough go out and get an amp or a nice mike if you are going to do vocals. Also, you aint gonna fit all this shit in a BMW so save a little for a volkswagon bus cause you're gonna need it! All your gear should be of comparable quality. think of it this way. put a shitty scatchy album on the best turntable in the world and it's gonna sound like shit! put a brand new album on a crappy stereo system and it will sound like crap. you have to upgrade your stuff in stages so that the quality increases together. don't spend all your bucks on a super guitar and plug it into a piece of junk. IMO

@phip:lol, i can think of any songs, and have only been playing for 2 months, eventually i will get one, but its just too much trouble to ssound better like tht, id rather have the guitar and stuff, then the studio. my dads bmw is big enough... my voice sounds like fingers on a chalkboard, so i wouldnt get a mic, im gona try to be even more specfic, since im not good at tht...with the 3k, i would be planning to upgrade both, and maybe get a recording studio things. what would be some good equipit to buy for 3k total, if i was gonna gig or make songs or stuff? i have a 15 watt vox ad 15vt-xl amp, and a epi plus top. |

@EMB
First remember that i'm old enough to be your dad, so i have learned a little patience over the years. stick with me here. at my age i don't learn as fast as you and i'm not in a big hurry to play in front of other people. Ok, i've been playing for a little over 6 months and you know what i'm playing? a cheap 120.00 no name acoustic, and i'm not going out and buying a good guitar until i've proven to myself that i'm any good. So i've been practicing my ass off. believe me when i see nice guitars i drool all over my chin and if get get good at this music thing i'll be shopping for something REAL nice. When you get good enough to play with other people you'll be learning songs together for a while and checking out what they have for gear and when you feel (as a group) that you are ready for some gigs THEN you'll be ready to spend some money. So like a typical old guy i'm advising you to keep practicing and wait until you have a better idea of what you'll need.
Now, do your homework or no dessert!!! lol |

I highly recommend Schecter guitars. You can't go wrong with one of their C-1 Models (Classic, Plus, etc.). I have a classic in transparent blue and it is drop-dead gorgeous. A very complex finish (it changes depending on your viewing angle and light), amazing tone, great craftsmanship, easy to play, and cheap! Well, cheap for its worth. I payed about $700 USD for mine. If I knew who awesome it was, I would have payed twice that. |

@ EMB, schecters are pretty much at all retail outlets daddys,GC etc...
it's the little independant shops that might not carry them.
i know classic rock is your style and if you really think you need
to upgrade something.(though i'm sorta with phip on this one)i'd
highly suggest getting a late 70's silverface twin like the one i have
w/a vibrato channel, though i'm pretty sure they all have that.
you really won't break the bank either(around $700 max for a mint
one) i see them on craigslist alot for $500-600 and even cheaper if they
have been toured heavily. they are more than loud enough for any gig
you think you may play and you'll be so impressed how your Epi LP
sounds w/o any pedals, that you won't want to upgrade your guitar.
when my teacher comes to the house for lessons with his 59 guild
hollow body,he begs to play on it...lol
@ LP....there is a JCM800 2x12 100W on craigslist for $850 right now ;)
next town over from me.

@Lance: If I was close enough to go pick it up I would be all over this amp. But I get a little uneasy buying something like that second hand off the net, that's why I haven't used ebay. To easy for someone to sell you crap and make it look like gold. |

Try fer a '65 Fender Twin Reverb( they are actually re-isssues of the 1965 version)They are a perfect all around amp for almost any kind of sound. Especcially if yer goin for a classic rock kind of sound. One of the finest amps ever made, and chock full of cozy warm tubes too. Also tough as hell, I bought one and liked it so much that I bought another one off of Ebay fer $850, perty much brand new. |

Take a good hard look at PRS!
I was looking at getting one of the SE hollow body models and in doing so I watched some reviews and what other players thought of them. the worst comment i herd was about the color of the pickups (they were 2 tone black and cream)! do the same for gibson and lots of people feel disappointed and ripped off. if i was going to drpop $2,000 on a guitar i would go with a PRS. |

don't buy a guitar online. you gotta touch it feel it hear it play it smell it ya know?
you gotta go to the stores.
if you feel funny about playing it in front of other people ask someone in the store to play it for you, pref someone who plays the type of music you like, and listen to the tone, pay attention to the action then ask them how they liked it (not a salesman). keep doing that until you narrow down the list. |

I've got to agree with Phip, best to get stuff from a shop, you normally find them cheaper there as well :D mainly I use the internet to get an idea of the kind of guitar I want, check reviews on it and see what the price range of it new normally is.. |

@EMB: I think you are a les paul fan if I'm not mistakin. The Epi Slash Les Paul plus top looks pretty good to me for $1000. It comes with a hard shell case ($79), Alnico pro II Humbuckers ($150), and a leather strap($50). Also I think they look better than a regular plus top they have a better paint job or something. When you think about it a normal plus top is gonna cost you $600 just for the guitar so it looks like a good deal to me. I wouldn't buy it just because it has Slash's name on it but it looks like a solid guitar for the price. |

yes i am...i am afriad tht the slash epi les paul is way overpriced becuause of slash's name...tht would be the reason i would buy it. i already have a plus top.. and i put on some seymour ducans and i like them... i was thinking about at one point, im just friad im paying for the name. |

Not buying something because of the name is really just as bad as buying something for the name. It just sets the purchase in the category of image. I think that when people get to caught up in image it can really take away from the music side of things. Find a guitar you like and buy it, don't worry about the name or what anyone else says or thinks good or bad. However I do agree you shouldn't go out and buy a slash guitar because his name is on it, but if you play it and like it don't pass it by just because his name is on it either. |

I'd say that's true LP, but he's talking about a signature guitar... which are pretty much always overpriced for the quality of the actual instrument. You could get a better guitar for that price, or a guitar of that quality for cheaper, most probably. |
