i say diff, ppl should choose which song is best for them, i mean i rather play an easy song well, than a hard song badly. |

I voted same songs, but maybe more than one, and from different styles of music, so you get a better sampling?
Either would work, it's just that comparing two different songs by different people would be harder to judge.
One option would be not even play songs, just certain exercises that would demonstrate knowledge of a skill, like who can play chords the best or who can pick the fastest? That would be harder to set up though...
So we'll leave it to the voters to decide! |

i guess...but som 1 may be better at tht type of music...nah...i think songs it good. (cause it would be unfair to me lol) in band im last chair for trombone i was...they tested us on our abilty to play exsercizes...when i came to the song...now...how cant u beat some one tht can play 4 different parts on 1 intrament just by hearing...yes thts me...i cant read music well, and i can only partially read on bass cleft. i dont know, or follow key changes, idk what key anything is in..all i know is i can play it to make it sound correct |

id say we write different songs, that would be fun, several different things could come of it rather than multiple renditions of the same song |

i think diferent songs is the best option....... altough voters would have to leave their liikes out... i thinks its better and would be more enriching(is that th correct word?) |

there are tons of songs that use acoustic in accordance with electric, listen to nutshell by alice in chains for example, and im pretty sure heavy metal is not the only genre of music that uses electric |

Listen to INFLAMES they use acoustic in their songs. It is actually a really good way to begin/end a song. Also it can be a nice break in the middle. |

We should play the same songs. I mean, I doubt someone playing "Happy birthday to you" will beat someone playing an old Metallica song. If it's gonna be based on skill/technical ability, then both/all bands should play the same one to see who can play it better. |

i'd definately start with a mutual song just to keep it simple.
it would make it alot easier to judge.

Maybe have a list of songs for the beginner to choise from. then everyone could pick there own song from the list. Let the more experienced group do what ever they want. |

Ok, I'm not going to take part in this cos I simply don't have the time at the moment, but...
How about everyone jams over the same chord progression. We could make it just a simple I, IV, V twelve bar blues progression, and it's up to the individual to do what they want with it. |

mm me don't really care now!! "er....should we play the same songs in compition against each othr or different ones?" You seem to fail to mention what the fu*& are going on about in the title of your heading but my English is not that good and all who know me understand. But you are 13 and have years to understand the guitar so I wish you luck in what you decide to do and may be next time think about posting with a full title not all of us understand. |

I think everyone that has seen the other topics leading up to this one understand just fine. Someone suggested an Internet band and this thread is asking if everyone should play the same song or different ones to try out for the band. |

Here's the way i see it.
1) you play any song you'd like and do as nice a job with it as you can. when you are happy with the song you post it (see below)
2) you must play with at least one other member of the forum.
3) plenty of time to learn and record the song (say, maybe a month or more) what? you in a hurry?
4)all members of the forum get to vote (there is a huge silent membership here)
5)we use the "poll" feature and each person gets to choose their 3 favorite bands (or songs). (honor system)
6) we leave the poll up for at least a month because not everybody logs on everyday so we give everybody plenty of time to listen and vote.
7) we use one of the popular sites ie YOU TUBE to post all the songs in one place and we post the url to that site.
Video is NOT required just the song.
8) we have the celebration party at Pusher's house ;)
no judges, no one song (you can't force me to play some fucking death metal piece of shit that i don't like, fucking period!
warmest regards,

errr...hey!thts interesting, but i wouldnt want to advertise the site, i like it with the # of ppl tht ther is rite now, i mean new members are cool and all, but if we youtube it, this site would get packed just like ug. we could post it on youtube, but maybe not give the sites name, say we all know each othr or somthing, unless everyone wants lots of members on here? |

exactly,
we don't have to post ANYTHING about this site along with the song files. actually we don't have to explain anythingat all. we just provide the link to our members, they go there, listen to the songs as much as they like and then place their vote here. |

Sounds good Phip but on the poles you can only vote once after that the pole disappears and the results come up so you will only be able to vote for one band. |

How do we synchronize our instruments? Do you mean we send each other video or audio files? Please explain, I'm not too good on my computer media. |

@league
yeah, let me explain this. it's all in the software.
let's say you and i decide on a song. i'm gonna play rhythm and your gonna do the lead. i record myself playing the rhythm and i send you the audio file. (maybe a wav or mp3 file). ok, you get the file and you open the file with a program called "audacity" (this is just an example but it's free and easy enough to use). so, you play the file over and over and maybe you play along with it for awhile until you are ready to record your lead part. you click on record and (here is the beauty of this program) the program is actually playing my rhythm part so you can hear while it records your lead. when you are done you now have TWO tracks, me on rhythm and you on lead. you can adjust the levels of each track so that they sound good together and you can add "effects" and wham you're done. if you don't like the way you played your part you can delete it without deleting my part and do it over and over and over until you get what you like. then you save the two tracks as one song. Now, you and i decide we'd like someone to lay down a drumming track so we send the file to the next guy and he does exactly what you just did. not bad huh? |
