first songs learned

i was curious what was that very first song you guys learned
when you started to learn to play guitar.

for me it was "highway to hell" though the rythym only, so it would
help me remember A,D,G majors

full song i would say "Mild ode to billy" by anthrax or S.O.D.

Day Tripper by the Beatles and Black Dog by Led Zeppelin were a few of the first ones. I also learn some Nirvana tunes and some power chord stuff.

I started out just playing the bass notes to songs. Not the bass parts, just the roots of the chords. It may sound really simple, but it certainly helped me learn the names of the notes on the E, A and D strings. I think the first full song I learned was Californication by RHCP. The hardest part with that song I found was the F major barre chord but I used to get away with it by flattening my index finger across the E string as well after playing the A minor chord, and just playing the top 4 strings or so. The solo is really easy.

hmm first notes to song day tripper, first full song completed...err you shook me all nite long by ac/dc, then more than a feeling by boston, highway to hell by ac/dc. never really focused on rhcp's songs so never finished them, i could if i wqanted to. i dont really like nirvana.(i only started about 1 1/2 months ago. i can play about 5 or 6 songs full, meaninful, good songs tht is, not mary had a little lamb. i can play:knoking on heavens door by gnr, more then a feeling by boston, tuesdays gone by lynyrd skynyrd, u shok me all nite long by ac/dc, highway to hell by ac/dc, purple haze by hendrix...err some more tht i forgot, but thts bout it, tht i learned, im sure i can play more)

yea i learned the entire master of puppets...some kid i went to school with back in highschool claimed he could play it...but he played it so very wrong...so i went ahead and learned just to make the ignorant prick look stupid. i made it about half way through crazy train-that same kid said he could figure out how to play it faster than i could. i had initially took up the challenge...but ive always hated playing songs that werent mine so stopped working on it point 1 for the prick.

Stairway was teh first entire one for me

The very first song I learned was "The Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson. To this very day, when I pick up my Bass or Guitar, I immediately start playing the riff to that song (E:-0-3-0--0-6-0-6-0--0-6-0-6-0--0-3-0).

I 'nearly' played Apache on my sisters boyfriends guitar when I was 7, but my first completed song when I got serious (about 12) was Eddie Cochrane's "Come on everybody". Then I got into Chuck Berry and Cream (that was considered to be 'diversity' in those days).

Lol I learned the first three note of smoke on the water then I started learning Guitar Man from a band called Bread ,deffa heard them before I'm sure.

I bust my first string over stretching a bend on 'guitar man'. I didn't know I was supposed to use a slide!Duh!

You only have to use the top two strings. :D

Come to think of it, that was one of the first songs I learned. The other would probably have been the mario bros. theme.

I've yet to learn an entire song of someone elses, I've just always written my own... But the first riff I ever learned would be IronMan by Black Sabbath, I figured it out on accident after noodling around one day.

A little late but I'd been playing for six months when I learned to play all of Stairway properly.

Don't remember much other than their name. I think they had something to do with the USA anti-war in Vietnam movement, but I can't remember any of their music. To be fair, between about '64 and'68 we were right in the middle of the British R&B boom and apart from Hendrix and one or two others I don't recall too many other American artists at that time. I was only 16 in 1970 so I suppose it's forgivable!

As for "Smoke on the water", I've heard very few people play that the way it's supposed to be played!

im pretty sure he played an open A and the power chords are rooted on the A string.

It's been over 20 years now, but I'm pretty sure CSN's Love the One You're With, Ain't Misbehavin' and Stormy Monday were the first songs I learned all the way through. My first guitar teacher taught folk and jazz primarily, so I didn't learn the typical Stairway to Heaven and Smoke on the Water like everyone else until about a year after I started playing.

Uh actually I kinda sat down one night and said to myslef that I was gonna learn it and I suceeded, but I'm a natural at this since my Uncle has opened for Satriani before and my Dad's band opened for Ike & Tina Turner in the 70's.

kool, i guess it helps to have a family member who is a pro, lol wuts strange, my dad is a pro(kinda plays concerts nd stuff in nyc) and my uncle is also a pro at guitar.
